2 out of 5 stars Bad Sensor   August 22, 2007

I bought this product primarily to keep track of my riding distance. After installing and inputting all my info (wheel size, maintenance schedule, weight, age, etc), I determined I might as well have flushed $10 down the toilet .... that would have been more interesting to watch than the zero on the odometer/speedometer that never changed as I rode. Tried remounting the magnet as close to the sensor as I could without them knocking into each other; no change, no indication that the comp unit was getting any impulses from down there. Oh well, at least the clock worked.... although another problem is when the sun shines brightly on the LC display, it seems to make all the characters visible, even when the unit is powered off. Not too easy to read that way.

Only conclusion I can come to is I got a unit with a bum sensor, but it didn't encourage me to replace it with the same type of device, especially after reading other reviews about its questionable accuracy. A tad feature-bloated for this user, my next purchase will be something more mechanical with basic functions. Sometimes low tech is preferable, especially when pedaling ones self around!

4 out of 5 stars so far, so good   June 21, 2007

the only reason this is not getting five stars is because i need to ensure the longevity of this speedometer.

but the pertinent features of this speedometer-- like speed and distance-- work quite well.

Installation is easy and securing the stage to the bicycle itself is simple. Parts and such seem sturdy.

The instrument's speeds and distances are not only accurate, but precise-- computer measures thousandths of miles! An interesting feature is that the computer seems to know when you are walking beside your bicycle-- when i walked beside the bike through a hallway it only registered distances in hundredths of miles instead of thousandths and didn't register a speed in mph even though it recorded these small distances.

The thermometer works well but is slow to register accurate temps, at least in the summertime (range minimum is 32 F-- pretty lousy). But this, the calorie and fat burning calculators are all frivolous features which have nothing to do with the speedometer's central purpose.

The computer's face has large, easy-to-read digits and the LCD screen is backlit, but the instruction manual does not indicate how to activate the backlight. The LCD backlight stays lit for about 5 seconds then deactivates-- similar to the old "indiGLO" watches in the 1990's. The backlight is pretty weak and difficult to read at night anyway, so I've incorporated a separate, small lamp to illuminate the computer's face during night rides which is a vast improvement.

Switching between modes/features on the computer is a little confusing since the instruction manual does not accurately describe how to properly utilize all of its functions.

overall, I look forward to many rides with this instrument on board my bike. I recommend this purchase over the lesser-priced Bell products or the cheap things from Wal-Mart. Well worth the $30.

5 out of 5 stars Best Buy in a multifunction bike computer!   April 29, 2007

I've owned two of these and ridden in all 4 seasons, driving rain, blinding snow, and even the occasional sunny, warm day. I've never had a problem with either, and find them very easy to set up and calibrate, easy to use, and totally accurate, dependable and reliable.

Under $10! Can't be beat! Ride on!!
