Solid mount with obvious room for design improvements October 6, 2006 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This kit provides three methods for mounting your phone / pda in your car. If you aren't sure which will suit best, the few extra dollars to have all three in one kit are probably worth it. Overall this is a solid system at a good price, although there are a few easy but significant design improvements waiting to be made. ***The core of the system is the PDA CRADLE itself, which clamps a wide range of devices securely, yet is easy to release. I do not worry about my device shaking loose, even over rough roads. The cradle attaches to the car via either the windshield mount, the dash mount, or the vent mount. ***The WINDSHIELD AND DASH MOUNTS are the same flexible arm. The arm attaches directly to glass with a large, powerful suction pad. Attachment to the dash requires first applying a self-adhesive disk to the point on the dash you want as your base and then using the suction pad to attach the arm to the disk. Choose your spot carefully as the disk is not easily removed once applied. Though the arm provides a solid base when attached, it is difficult to situate it unobtrusively. The flexibility of the arm is quite limited so that it is impossible to mount low on the sloping windshield of most cars, whereas mounting it high enough to avoid the dash presents a significant obstruction to your view of the road. ***The VENT MOUNT is a lighter and more portable solution. It is primarily designed to clip to horizontal vent louvers, for cars with more esoteric vent designs it might not be an option. It can be a little fiddly to install, and even more fiddly to remove but, depending on the location of your vents, it can provide a good compromise of keeping your device near the instruments for head (almost) up GPS navigation without obscuring your view of the road. The swivel feature makes it easy to adjust the angle of your device display for easier viewing or to alternate between driver and passenger using the device.
Great PDA Mount February 23, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I use this mount with an Ipaq 2755 in a Proprta crystal clear case but it has enough adjustment capability for devices that are somewhat bigger through considerable smaller. The suction cup is mechanically enhanced and holds with amazing grip. So much that it can be difficult to remove from the windshield when you want to switch cars. An easy fix for this is separate it from the windshield by slipping a credit card or similar flat plastic item between the suction cup and the window (after you release the mechanical suction amplifier). This is a great bundle although I don't use the vent kit becuase I would have to separate the cradle portion from the windshield mount to use it with the vent mount (which is also not that easy to remove - not that difficult but not that easy...) So this product would be better if it came with two cradles, which is the only reason I gave it 4 not 5 stars. With outanother cradle, the vent mount for me is pretty useless. YMMV. Also, eventhough I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars, I think its probably the best or one of the best mounts out there. I have not seen one I would buy over this one (except they make kits with no vent mount - I'd but that over this one.)
Fairly good generic mount for my Treo 650, but not the most portable March 30, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this unit to mount my Treo 650 while I am using my TomTom navigation system. I like the fact that this set has both a windshield mount and a vent mount using the same sled. My thought was that I could use the same set for both a permanent (windshield) mount in my car, and as a portable unit that I could take on the road.
Well, the universal sled itself is fairly large and chunky. This is not an issue at home, but it's not the most space-friendly when I'm traveling on business. The vent mount works fine, but a better design for the hooks for the air vent would have been nice (you must manually put on and take off the hooks).
The sled itself is adjustable, so this unit could be used with multiple devices.
Overall, this is a good value. However, I'm now searching for a vent mount that can clip to the belt holder of my Treo case.
Perfect for my Nokia N810 Internet Tablet December 8, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This Arkon mount is versatile and works with multiple devices - thats the best part. I recently bought a Nokia N810 with GPS and needed a car mount for that (preferably Windscreen mount) and the Arkon fit the bill.
The Device mount is adjustable to potrait or landscape mode and the width is adjustable for various width holds with a nice ruber grip on the sides so that the devices dont get scratched and hold well too (non-slip).
The Car mounts come in two formats - 1 a windscreen mount - very robust and strong gooseneck and easy and good suction mount and the other a Air vent mount - just slip on the air vent clips and click it goes into the vents.
Overall a very very nice combination fo device and car mount together. I dont use the iincluded Nokia device mount at all on my N810 now - the Arkhon is easy to move from car to car also.
Some problems April 5, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mount plastic is sturdy and suction cup is strong. Unfortunately the part that holds the PDA detaches from the gooseneck or vent mount (this is obviously necessary so it can be used either way). When using the gooseneck it is easy to detach the two pieces and knock the part holding the PDA off the gooseneck entirely... very annoying. When using it as a vent mount you really need to keep the PDA vertical rather than horizontal (which is the way I prefer it when using the PDA as a GPS) since there is a joint that causes the PDA to flop downward when in this position.
