A Huge Disappointment July 19, 2007 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
This item wouldn't work for me. I tried several times to contact the retailer and never received any help. Fortunately Amazon came to the rescue with their A to Z guarantee and credited me for the entire amount of the purchase. Maybe it will work for you, but if it doesn't....
Does not work with AT&T U-verse November 26, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This product worked fine with my DVD player, but not with my AT&T U-verse set top box. I'm not sure why, but I tried many different things and it just wouldn't work. So if you are not using U-verse, I would highly recommend it. But if you are using U-verse, check their returns policy because it may not work for you.

This is my first review but since I spent so much time trying to find a unit that does what this one does, I thought I would spare others the time consuming hunt.
My challenge was, that I wanted to be able to control the Direct TV receiver in my house, from my garage which is steel walled and 300 wooded feet away from the receiver. I had been using several RCA model D940 IR Remote Control Signal Senders throughout my house and all worked well, but the extreme distance to my garage was way beyond their capability. Then I discovered this little jewel.(Yes, I was too cheap to buy another receiver for the garage)With the NGHP TX-433(which only claims to work to 100 feet), I was able to extend my remote from inside the steel garage 250 feet to a loft entertainment center where I stuck the IR eye onto the front of the RCA D940, which in turn extended the remaining 50 feet to my Direct TV Receiver. I was, and still am amazed at how well it works from the garage and from other remotes in the house. After all of the grief I went through with trying to get the RCA and a Lorex A/V/IR remote to work, I can't say enough about this product. I just set one up in a neighbor's house (the have DISH) and they are very happy with it, especially the savings.
The only negative thing I must mention is the one many other reviewers have complained about and that is the instruction sheet. It is so poorly translated, that people who are unfamiliar with these gadgets could have trouble getting them to work, especially the charging slots. If not for the instruction sheet, I would rate this a five star product.
Inconsistent performance March 7, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's a good idea... and frankly, I'm amazed that it works at all. The little battery transmitter is ingenious and I have no idea how it is senses what infra-red signals are being sent out of the remote. So that part is very cool. But for me it just didn't seem to work well. It worked about half the time.
I have a Home Theater Master 500 remote in which it worked sometimes, but not consistently enough to be worth the effort. I also tried it in the FIOS-supplied remote. It worked a little better in that one but still not consistently. I could be using the remote for maybe 10 keystrokes, all working just fine. Then I'd change to a different key and no response. I'd hit the key four or five times still with no response and then I'd try aiming the remote different places or covering the remote's infrared emitter with my hand - which usually, but not always, fixed the problem. My assessment from that is: When the component receiving the signals (i.e. your cable box, dvd player, audio receiver, tv, etc) gets infrared from both your hand-held remote AND the Next Generation extender, it somehow cancels out. I can see by the indicator lights that the Next Generation is receiving the FM, then sending out the infrared, so I know it's working. But then the cable box, for instance, does not respond. I tried numerous locations for the extender, close to the components, far from and using the little direct-eye emitter (all of which, by the way, was not appreciated by my wife. She disliked the look of a visible "gadget" flashing a red light)
I suppose I could put tape over the infrared emitter on the remote so the components never receive signal directly from the remote, but I don't want to do that. And even when I blocked the infrared from the remote, the performance was still a little inconsistent. So overall, this extender does not work for me. It seems that if you are going to use one remote for out-of-room control of your AV and another remote for in-room control, it would be golden. But since I use one remote that I would expect to work both close to and far from the components, the problems outweight the benefits. But I have to admit, it was nice to be able to control the kid's TV volume in the living room from the kitchen! (when it worked).
Terrific Device November 15, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This RF extender works great. I was looking for a remote extender to control my DirecTv receiver from my bedroom in my motor home and remotely in my house. This little transmitter is surprisingly powerful. I've tested the remote from over 45" away, through several interior walls, and it works perfectly. I would suggest the negative reviewer re-check the positive and negative battery & transmitter ends. It is easy to put them in backwards. I'm a gadget guy and this is on top of my list, at a fraction of the cost of most of my toys......
