1 out of 5 stars Easy to program, poor button responsiveness   December 18, 2005
5 out of 6 found this review helpful

Looks good, programs easily. Motion-sensing on/off is great. But many of the buttons on the touchscreen are unuseable - often it takes repeated presses to get the unit to respond. The unit I had felt like the surface plastic material was sticking to the contacts underneath. I thought this would go away with use, but nothing had improved after 10 days.

I returned it - NOT AS ADVERTISED!

2 out of 5 stars Two words: Rechargeable Batteries   April 27, 2007
Pros:
--The only reason I am giving this product
2 stars is for it's stamina. We've had
it for two years and it is still funtioning.

Cons:
--It is motion sensitive and EVERYTHING sets if off.
You walk around, your cat walks around, you bump the
table, you sit on the couch: the remote lights up.
We changed batteries in this thing at least once a week.
--As someone else mentioned, the buttons are not raised.
I may be spoiled, but if I pay $100 for something, I
shouldn't have to look down at the remote everytime I
need to change the channel or volume.
--It wears easily. Ours still functions, but the keys are
worn down and showing black underneath. Which may be a
product of 2 years worth of use, but if the buttoms were
raised, this may not have been an issue in the first place.
--It is too complex for my taste. My spouse set it up so that
the macros could be pressed to activate multiple devices for a
certain activity, but turning it, for example, from game to TV
mode, requires multiple steps instead of one simple click.

4 out of 5 stars Great one for all remote conversation piece   January 31, 2006

I've had this remote for over a year now. It has been fun and made for a lot of conversations. But, we're over it now and going to move on...to a remote with actual buttons on it. But I will be going with another One-For-All brand remote (the URC 9910). It truly is a single remote for everything. I use it for my JVC TV, XBox, Hauppauge PVR-250 video capture card to control a PC, Onkyo home theater system, and DirecTV satellite receiver.

The problem with the remote is that you have to look at it to use it. We've gotten quite good to be able to use certain buttons by feel, but its just not the same as a buttoned remote. Whenever I visit a house and use a remote with buttons, I realize how much I miss it.

The auto-on vibration switch is a joke. Turn it off. It will come on when a Cessna flies over the house at 10000 feet I bet! If on, it will drain my rechargeable batteries in less than a week (GET rechargeable batteries!) It lasts about a month or a bit more with the vibration off, but you'll quickly get used to first covering the IR sensor with your thumb, pressing the pad to turn on the remote, uncovering the sensor, then pressing the key you want. Unlike what the directions say, if you press the pad while it is off, the button underneath where you pressed (that you can't see yet) will be sent and can cause unwanted things to happen.

Another user reported about unknown black substance has infiltrated some of the keys. This has happened to me, but after about 6-8 months. It with the most commonly used keys, 'OK', etc. Seems to be something underneath wearing off.

Very customizable, works with everything though and thats why I'm getting another OFA remote.

4 out of 5 stars Battery eater no more.... After the warranty was up   July 27, 2007

I opened it up. I read at a hack site about the vibe sensor tied to little bb's in a 1 inch x .25 inch little silver colored box. I carefully pried it open from the one side where it is is black plastic and out popped two little bb's. I removed them and reassmebled the little box and the unit and now the lights only go on when I hit a button. They stay on for about 5 seconds and a few of the buttons are a little darker now, but I don't care. Battery life is a lot longer now and the unit works like a champ. Can't do anything about the tactile feel, but it's ok, I'm used to it now.

5 out of 5 stars Love This Remote!   January 9, 2007

I am definitely a "gadget guy" and this is about the coolest thing I have seen in a while. Of course it works as a universal remote, but it looks good doing it! When it is sitting it has a blank blue screen, but when you pick it up the digital "buttons" light up which is where the cool-factor comes in. It is incredibly easy to use in a darkened room, but you can see the display perfectly well in a brightly lit environment too.

More importantly, it is very easy to program. So far everything I have with a remote has been programmed into this one remote - including the ceiling fan. Also, you can easily customize certain keys to perform sequences like turn everything on or off by touching 1 button. It is easy to customize the display to move keys around if you want to do so.

About the only drawback is it does burn through the AAA batteries. I seem to replace batteries approximately every 4 weeks.

All in all I am very happy with my newest "gadget".
