4 out of 5 stars Well worth the moderate price   May 8, 2008
I purchased this just before a recent business trip from DFW to SFO and back. I was VERY pleased with the level of noise reduction, and the comfort of the headphones. True, they don't block out all the noise, but I'd say (subjectively) it sounded like it cut the ambient aircraft engine noise down by about half. I never used to think the noise was all that much on an airliner, but once I turned the noise canceling switch on, I was amazed at what I had been putting up with. The only negative is the tendency for the two wires to get amazingly tangled, but I soon learned to wrap the wires around the cylindrical unit before stowing it and the folding headset away in the storage case. There are cheaper units out there, but I read several reviews complaining about the headset breaking after a few uses. And there are much more expensive units out there that the reviews indicate don't perform a whole lot better. For the price point of these, I am very pleased with the quality and function.

4 out of 5 stars Yes, but .....   May 17, 2008
Probably the message can be confusing. What is 70% noise reduction? Which 30% remain? Noise reduction works well with lower, deeper frequencies. If there is no lower frequencies the effect is difficult to detect. But the technical means to reduce noise seem to be multiple. Inversion of sound signals is one, selective amplification - it seems - another, and as an add-on you get some white noise. If you use it for listening to music the impression of noise reduction is strong. It certainly may be 70% or even more. But if you just use the phones without an mp3 player or another source of sound - it rather feels like 30%-40%. Therefore not 5 but only 4 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Use a lot   May 31, 2008
My wife and I both have this product and use it a lot. Aside from the obvious - planes, trains, buses, etc. - we also use the noise canceling features when we vacuum, mow the lawn, trim bushes, etc. Very hand to listen to music, podcasts, or books on tape while doing other things. And now we can still listen while doing things that are normally too noisy to hear well.
You have to get used to the wires - that's the only drawback. But it's doable. Run them under your shirt is the easiest. They are light weight and comfortable - can wear many hours without the ear cramp feeling. They are compact for traveling, and the batteries last a long time. When they get low, the red LED on the battery pack blinks. But the nice thing is that the head phones still work even if the the batteries go out completely - a feature some other head phones lack. My wife and I have had ours for a couple of years now and take them everywhere - use them a lot - and no problems. And if we had to replace them, I could buy three sets of these for the price of some others.
We just purchased sets for our sons. I'm sure they'll like them.

4 out of 5 stars Good sound Wires could be a pain!!   June 2, 2008
These headphones cancel out noise very well Excellent price. Only downnside is tangled wires make it a bit unruly to use at times!!!
