5 out of 5 stars Great Set of JVC Earbud Headphones For a Great Price.   December 29, 2005
7 out of 7 found this review helpful

I recently had the unplanned opportunity this Christmas to compare the JVC Gummy earbud headphones against the Sony version and the Memorex version of this product. So the scientist in me and my 2 daughters tried all three on an ipod nano. It was amazing the difference between the products. The bass is considerably clearer on the JVC product. The volume is much louder ( so you don't have to raise the volume as high and subsequently also raising the hiss and other noise of the particular player you're using). The vocals and cymbals were equally crisp. All this for a mere $8.99 plus S&H online or $14.99 in Walmart. The only drawback that we could find is that the earbuds are inherently uncomfortable for some of us after about an hour as compared to the in-the-ear type. Overall a thumbs up for the JVC Gumy Earbud headphones. Cheers...Les

5 out of 5 stars cheap but good   January 12, 2006

My iPod earbuds recently broke and I was trying to decide what to get when I came across these. They are really cute and come in 3 colors that I've seen, blue, green, and pink. These stay in my ears much better than the ipod earbuds and are pretty decent when it comes to volume. Considering they're under ten dollars and headphones break so easily in general, I'd say they are top notch for someone looking for decent sound, affordability, and style.

3 out of 5 stars When is cheap not good?   April 15, 2006

Yep, these are cheap. But at what cost to your pleasure and hearing?

First, if you don't like in-the ears, then move on. If you do, these are acceptable for the price- but all the Sony's I've owned have sounded better. These get distorted at high volumes and leak a lot and annoy others. The cord is cheaper than any Sony or even JVCs I've owned. Very thin.

They fit alright (Sony's stay in my ear better because they are ovoid, but also hurt my ear just a bit more), but 'gummy' is way off, unless you're thinking of a gummy worm left to dry and harden. If you want soft, try ones with the cloth slipcover.

My main problem is that if you are buying these for a kid/teen/heavy music listener- bad idea. These have their (limited) uses, but these fit loosely, so I have to turn up the volume if there is much ambient noise and this will definitely cause hearing less! I took the plunge and bought Shures ($90! - ouch)...and there are also Etymyotic and UltimateEars and after getting used to it they are great. The volume on my MP3 can be turned down by nearly 75% when I use my noise cancelling over these (the cheap Sony's are a bit better at blocking out ambient noise). So, if you can afford one more trapping of a materialistic person, then try a more expensive and safer headphone...if you are unable to, then these are not bad...for the price.

Do what you want, but if you're jacking up the volume to drown out noise, then you WILL go deaf and then you'll wish you weren't so cheap. (Plus the more expensive ones come with FULL warranties).

Or maybe you want to be deaf... 'huh, what?' I said MAYBE YOU WANT TO BE DEAF!! 'huh? oh'

3 out of 5 stars Cute, Sounds Great, But Uncomfortable!   August 9, 2007

This earbuds are as cute as could be, sound great, and are durable, but are very, very uncomfortable. I can only wear mine for about a half hour before they begin to hurt and after an hour I have to take them out---then that's it for the whole day. They are a somewhat soft rubber on the outside but the inside is hard plastic; they are comparable in quality to the earbuds that come with iPod nanos. For the price they are adequate, but you can spend about the same or a bit more and get earbuds that are all this and that you can wear for longer as well.

I ended up buying some "Koss "The Plug" Portable Headphones" for under $20 and can wear them all day; I would recommend something like this instead.

I do like the colors that these earbuds come in, but they are more than an accessory for me and have to be usable as well. The sound quality is just fine for a cheaper ear bud---no complaints here.

Mine often fall out because they do not change their shape to accommodate your ear; your ear must change shape to fit this earbud, hence the discomfort.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT $8 earbud!!!   March 9, 2006

My stock ipod earbuds started to die (one was nearly completely deaf, and the other needed almost full volume), so I bought these gummies as a cheap replacement -- WOW! Great volume response, comfortable fit with the soft rubber coatings. These are great little earbuds -- and I won't cry if they die in 6 months and I have to buy some more. And believe me I will!!. Depending how long these last, maybe next time, I'll buy a couple pair at a time (no kidding).
