5 out of 5 stars Great Headphones and a Bargain at $20!   December 26, 2007
8 out of 10 found this review helpful

About me-- I work in radio and music and normally use high-end headphones because of it. For personal use, I have some of the $300 Bose phones.

So I know something about headphones... :)

Needed a cheap pair of earbuds for the gym and picked these up. Not as good as the high-end stuff, but still really good. These headphones do a good job of blocking out room noise, which allows me to keep the volume low. Great for listening to audio books and spoken word stuff as you'll be able to understand what the person is saying without cranking the volume level.

These come with three adapters, so you can size them to your ear. That makes them very comfortable. And they stay in place.

Quality is good. Again, these are still cheap headphones, so don't expect them to compare with Sony or Bose, but at $20, even if they break after a year, you'll still have gotten a bargain.

Worth a shot!

3 out of 5 stars I found a much better alternative for (roughly) the same cost.   June 15, 2008

I ordered the JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds from Amazon around a month ago. I'd read the reviews and couldn't wait to use them with my Sansa Clip (mp3 player). I have a set of Sony MDR-NX1's, but they are several years old (and white, the Sansa is black), so I decided to splurge on a new set. $20 wasn't much for nice sounding buds (I'd paid a good bit more than that for the Sony's), but with the large number of positive reviews for the JBuds, I just assumed that I was getting a incredible bargain. Turned out not to be the case.

When they arrived three weeks ago, I immediately plugged in the JBuds and was surprised by their very disappointing sound. The bass and midrange were muddy and a little distorted. By comparison to my old Sony's, the JBuds were certainly just as comfortable, but sounded absolutely terrible. So I went back to the web and began searching for what might be the problem and found others with a similar impression. Some suggestions were to push the buds further into the ear canal and try different adapters (the JBuds come with three different size adapters, which is nice). I did all that and it didn't help. But still, after seeing the number of positive reviews the JBuds received, I decided to just give them some time --- maybe I would get used to them and learn to appreciate how great they are.

Alas, no. After two weeks of using them on my daily commutes and at work (around 4 hours a day), I've decided that, for me, they would only be acceptable while working out or other activities where I'm not too particular about the sound quality. But when I'm at my computer or just relaxing to some nice tunes, they just don't cut it.
And it's not a particular type of music they perform poorly on, it's everything I listen to: rock, contemporary (top 40), solo guitar/piano, classical, country, and spoken voice. I don't listen to heavy metal, but I'd imagine it would sound just as bad to me.

So I began my quest again for a new set of buds, prepared/planning to spend much more than $20 this time, because I didn't want to risk another bad experience. After reading countless reviews on various buds in the under $50 category, I decided to give the Sennheiser CX300s a try. Amazon had the black version for $40, free shipping, and I was about to order them when I found a 3rd-party seller on amazon (usedmarket24open) offering the S version (silver and black earpieces, but the wires are solid black) for $20 plus $5 shipping (Sennheiser CX300-S Earbuds (Silver)).

So I read the reviews on the seller, then tempted fate and ordered them a little over a week ago. They arrived yesterday, and wow --- they are awesome! Everything is crystal clear. The bass is strong, yet no hint of muddiness whatsoever. $5 more than I paid for the JBuds, but a night-and-day difference in the way they sound.

So there's my JBuds story. I guess my ears are different than the majority of JBuds reviewers, but similar to the Sennheiser reviewers. And if you're not happy with your JBuds, maybe the CX300 would work for you too.

5 out of 5 stars WAY better than stock iPod or Sony earbuds!!!   January 24, 2007

For the price you will not find better. I searched long and hard for some good earbuds and my search has ended now that I have the Jbuds. Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they sound fantastic!!! Excellent bass response that doesn't drown out the highs and mids. They are crystal clear and great for all types of music. Excellent customer service as well, which is more that I can say for some companies. Don't waste your money on anything else in their price range! As a suggestion, I highly recommend that you allow your earbuds to "break in" for a couple of hours. This is completely normal for headphones and speakers alike. Once broken in, you will notice an improvement in the bass response and overall sound - ENJOY!!!

3 out of 5 stars good enough   November 22, 2006

The sound is better than the standard buds that ship with ipods, but I can imagine that others may be better. They stay in place better than the regular buds, but I still have to mess around with them a few too many times when I go for a run.

For the money, these are pretty good. If you're willing to spend more, I'd search around for something else.

I have had these for about a month, and they are far superior to any other earbud I have tried. I would highly recommend them.

I also own the mini blaster for my ipod and this company is known for innovative design and quality.

Also, for the price you can't go wrong.
