coby vs sony: disappointing April 8, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I had the sony EX51s which were great but after about 1 year the volume on them decreased considerably, they just werent as loud as they used to be. So I went looking for a replacement. The Coby's here looked good - only 5 bucks -- and some pretty positive reviews here. And apparently they're coming off the same factory line as the Jbuds which are also highly rated.
Well, guess what. The good news is that I only spent 5 bucks (hence 3 stars). But the bad news is they SIMPLY DO NOT compare with the quality of even lower end sonys. Bass is muddy and overpowering; no resolution or clarity - its not a balanced sound at all. Nor is the bass so great that it makes up for that. They're just muddy, very muddy, to my ears. Maybe the Sonys spoiled me.
After experiencing these, I decided to skip the v-modas too, which apparently do not have a balanced sound either (very bass heavy). So I went with the creative ep-630's (which come off the same factory line as the Sennheiser cx300's - for half the price). Apparently these are more balanced. If I want more bass, I'll turn up the bass on my player. But if you begin with an unbalanced set of earbuds to begin with, there's no amount of equalizer tweaking you can do to fix that.
Brilliant sound if inserted correctly October 30, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The frequency range and volume output is simply amazing. I've tried many different head phones and this is by far my best pair. I also have one of those studio "ear muff" head phones which cost $200 dollars and this $5 pair, although not better, is very similar in terms of sound quality. Be sure to insert them correctly or else some sounds may sound muffled or just weird.
My final thought is this is the best $5-$10 you'll ever spend.
Cheap jlab ripoffs... November 2, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I thought I could save a few bucks getting these instead of the jlab headphones that my wife uses. The sound quality on these really does not compare to the jlabs. I guess you get what you pay for. For $5, I guess these aren't a bad buy if you need something disposable but I would recommend getting a more upscale pair like the jlabs if you are trying to get something more long term.
Better Sound Than I Expected November 15, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was quite happy with these earphones, if you don't get them pushed into your ear far enough you won't get the quality sound, if you're wanting to go cheap and still get good sound, this is it.
Lasted 2 months March 4, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Decided to buy based on all the great reviews, but luckily ordered only one to try before buying more. Sound was decent, better than other cheap headphones. Unfortunately, for me it lasted only 2 months.
