3 out of 5 stars Perfect replacement for iPhone included headset   July 31, 2007
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

Sure these have a few troubling items, like, not being 10 times as high quality as the original headset, or having a slightly larger button/mic.

But they are lanyard style, which rules. It's so nice to be able to wander about downtown with my phones in, and when I need to communicate, just click the pause button, and drop the earbuds out of my ears, without any worries that they need to go in my pocket or whatever, they just hang around my neck, no problems.

The audio quality is superior to the original included headset. That's not saying much, since the original set is pretty poor quality, for Apple standards at least. The sound is equivalent to what you get when you press the originals into your ears and cover up your ears with your palms, but a bit better balanced. Not much, but, definitely better.

I got this set for $20, if you can find them for that price point, I would not hesitate to replace the poor OEM headset with these. Also, currently there is no alternative third party in-ear set that has "the button" so it's really pointless to consider them unless you seriously love digging around for your phone every time you want to pause for 30 seconds to interact with a barista.

The shure series garners high marks for audio quality, but if you're enjoying your music on your current headset but dislike the comfort issues, then you'll fall in love with these, certainly.

In-ear headphones take a little getting used to, it's odd how much more of the sound you hear, and because of that, it will sound "wrong" at first. Don't sweat it though, your mind adjusts fairly quickly, and the increased comfort level will have you addicted to this headset style for a long, long time.

1 out of 5 stars Poor Audio Quality :(   March 28, 2008

I'm VERY disappointed in the sound quality of these!
I bought these as a back up set for my iPhone earbuds. Many reviews on Amazon (and elsewhere) said that they were at least as good sounding as the stock iPhone/Ipod sets. This is just not true. One of the things Apple is great about is having a certain quality standard. Being somewhat of an audiophile, I can tell you that the Apple earbuds are a very good base standard for general listening quality. Don't get me wrong, there better sounding headphones and earphones/earbuds out there. But in my experience there are not that many "great values" to be had: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! (i.e.My Shure E3s sound way better than the standard Ipod issue, but at $179 they certainly should!)

Anyway, as far as these Rivet lanyard style iPhone compatible earphones are concerned, I was intrigued by their lanyard design, as well as the fact that they had a cloth covered cord; a characteristic of some "high-end" audio cables. I love in-ear style earbuds and already own two pair of Shure ear monitors (the older E1 and the aforementioned set of the E3s). There seemed to be more than a few good reviews. Some of the negitive reviews I read seemed to be written by folks who just had an unlucky experience or just didn't seem to know any better.

So being an educated consumer, I seized the chance to get them on sale when Amazon lowered the price to $9.44. "What a bargain!" I thought; the original price was $29.99 (incidentally the exact same price as Apple's stock iPhone/Ipod replacement headsets). Many of the other quality after-market brands of iPhone compatible earbuds are priced $90 and up. So, with shipping my total was about $15. But when I tried these Rivet earphones for the first time, I felt as though I'd thrown $15 right in the trash. They have a very narrow, thin sound that I would expect from set of free airline headsets, or earphones that you'd find at an "All for a Dollar" store. The cloth covered cord causes distracting "rustling" sounds that transmit right to your ears; VERY DISTRACTING! So much for the "quality "of the cloth covered cable. ...and good luck trying to talk on the phone with these, no way! The cord rustling would require you to stand perfectly still in order to hear the caller.

Well, at best it can be said that opinions about headphones are very personal. You really have to try them to be sure, and that's hard to do. But please take it from me, if you care about sound quality (even a little bit) these are not for you!

1 out of 5 stars 2 of these have broken on me   April 16, 2008

Do not buy these.
The first set I bought broke after about 30 days. I gave Rivet the benefit of the doubt, and sent it to them for a replacement. I bought another pair to use in the meantime because the price is so low.

I received a replacement, but it was the wrong model (they sent me one for a motorola).

The new set I bought just broke, this time in under 30 days.

Simply put, do not buy them.

4 out of 5 stars Rivet Headset   August 6, 2007

I was searching for an iPhone headset since I can't use the horrible ones that come with iPod's and the one that came with the iPhone is the same. And, since you can't use ANY other headset with the iPhone, I was forced to use those horrid things. I bought the Belkin adapter to use with my own headphones which is RIDICULOUS. (Don't buy that thing.) These headphones aren't bad at all. The sound is as good as my Sony's and once I read the directions on how to wear them correctly, I really like how they work. Until they come out with more choices, this is a great one. Don't be fooled by the long cord at first. READ THE DIRECTIONS. It's actually quite nice how it works.

THIS PRODUCT HAS NO BASS RESPONSE. USE IT ONLY FOR TALKING ON YOUR PHONE. THE SOUND QUALITY IS SO POOR I COULDN'T STAND LISTENING TO MY IPOD.
