Amazing speakers for the money! April 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These floor speakers sound great! I can't say they are the best out there, but for the price, you can't go wrong! I upgraded to Sony SSF-7000's from a pair of Polk R300's (Polk's cheapest set of floor speakers) and the difference is amazing! The Polk's sounded pretty darn good, but it only had a mid and a tweeter, so it didn't produce a strong full sound. These Sony's however, give off a much fuller sound, even at extreme high volumes. However, to get a strong low response, I had to crank up the bass on my receiver and really give it some volume. Along with the 7000's, I purchased the Sony SA-W3800 sub, which rocks! When both the 7000's and the 3800 sub are paired, you get a great full sound and movies sound more than amazing! I highly recommend purchasing the 7000's if you seek strong front speakers with a full sound. I also want to mention these speakers are tall - Approx 4-feet in height.
Great speakers... April 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you are on a budget, you will not find a better pair of speakers that can handle the power and sound this good. I use them mostly with an Art SLA1 100W/channel amp for mixing music.
The only problem is that the grills are very cheap. They were both broken when the speakers arrived from Vanns. It has been 1 month and I still do not have replacement grills. For some reason they even sent me to Sony.?? It is not Sony's responsibility!
Bottom line...I'm impressed with the speakers, not the customer service!
Ignore the salespeople and get a truly great buy June 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sony speakers are almost always condemned by audio salesman. Don't believe them. I matched up these Sony 7000 towers with the Pioneer Elite Integrated Amp and the sound is simply spectacular. Voices sound like they are in your room. Close your eyes and you will swear the violin is only a few yards away. The clarity is simply amazing. I spent months scanning audio websites before choosing the Sony and I made the right decision. My excellent results are for stereo only. I have no idea how they may sound in a 5 channel setup. But if price is a factor and you need towers, this Sony is a spectacular bargain.
Good for Music, Better for Movies September 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first thing you will notice when you get these is the size (Height) these are defiantly "towers" in every regard. I have owned many speakers throughout the years, but not many had the full range clarity these do, they seem to 'come alive' on just about anything video games, Movies, Music, ect.. and they can get LOUD if you wire them correctly. I am no stereo guru but I know great sound when I here it, I scoped the more higher end stuff first, everything from Polk, Infinity, Kef, Omnisat, even Focal which was featured in stereo review this year. It is amazing to think these are SONY speakers, for one I'd never been a fan of their products but this does not sound like sony! add that to the many good reviews = Me buying them and Im glad i did! sure you can get 'better speakers' i.e. a little bit more 'boom' but for you buck you will not find anything even remotely as good as these. All in all it depends what your listening tastes are if your into Rock you will love these because of the crystal highs and a good 'punch' of Bass to fill your room or whatever. Movies on the other hand, is where these shine it's probably been said many times before but when viewing a movie you hear things that you may have never herd before the multi-faceted range is amazing it is a "Things are coming at you" (you are in the action) type of feeling, and if you have a Sub (I recommend the SW-12 Infinity) forget about going to the movies your at the movies! Just make sure you have the right hook-up Monster Cable is a must. The only thing I did not like about these is the cheesy puny wires it comes with you need THICK wires for good sound reproduction, other then that these are a steal for the money nobody and I mean nobody (to my knowledge) has put out something with this good of quality sound plus the price to top it off. It's like 'paying for a SONY product' the only difference is that your getting POLK AUDIO Sound!!! Absolutely Recommended. Just wanted to add you can use them as fronts or surrounds dose not matter they sound good either way. Don't be a fool and spend hundreds more Buy Them while you can!
good generic speakers October 12, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These speakers are very satisfactory unless you are some kinda of audiophile nut. Great value and they will impress most people, and yes there are better speakers but what a bargain! I typically don't care for Sony products but Samsung doesnt make speakers... Good choice for front home theather speakers. Note- Sony's front channel speaker is also decent. Rear speakers not so much...
