2 out of 5 stars The first foot steps for cordless headphones   October 29, 2001

The first generation of Sennheiser Wireless headphones was just about OK if you did ot leave your livingroom and faced the transmitter......
The RS 40 is deffinitelly better, however if you leave the room where the transmitter is placed and dare to go to the garden or one floor up the noise becomes unbearable.
Wait for the 2.4 gigahertz version - The RS40 is not worth it.
The cheapest corded headphones sound better.

5 out of 5 stars Far and away the best   January 25, 2003

I can't believe this product has an average rating of only three stars. This model is far and away the best pair of wireless radio headphones I have seen on the market, and I have tried the RS-60s and RS-40s (which used to be the best before these came out) as well as products by Advent and Amphony. Any criticism of this model must be based on unrealistic expectations for radio frequency headphones, which do not reach the level of the best infrareds but are close and have significant other advantages. The sound quality and range on these (even through walls) are unbelievable and the comfort is unsurpassed. Being the best product in its category for a marginal price increase over inferior brands, which is entirely justified by the clear edge in quality, these headphones deserve five stars. The only weakness I can think of is a certain fragileness (don't roll over on them while taking a nap).

2 out of 5 stars Not bad but dissaponted   September 14, 2002

First off I asummed too much in that [expensive] wireless headphones were going to be anywhere near the quality of even 100 dollar headphones. I was skeptikal in the first place but I couldn't demo them at the store because they had to be charged first. I decided to try them and I am dissapointed. Id say their worth about a 100 for the feautures and quality. I wouldn't by cordless headphones for about 5 years when the technology is signifigantly better. It had signifigant static reguardless of where the reciver or the headset was. It is not as comfotable as many headphones but it is not awful the quality is that of 50 dollar headphones. If the volume is turned up the bass becomes awful similar to that of a blown speaker. I do not reccomend the rs85s but I do reccomend sennheiser corded headphones of all sorts.

5 out of 5 stars Common Problems FAQ   June 8, 2003

I have readed some complaints about this product, so i have decided to write a small FAQ to everyone, because they are very easy to solve.

Q)The volume goes up and down without user intervention.
A)The headphoenes is tryng to compensate a too high input volume by lowering it when it would be clipped. To resolve it turn down your input volume.
Q)I hear static, pop or simply noise in SOME points.
A)A)The headphoenes is tryng to compensate a too high input volume by lowering it when it would be clipped, but without success. To resolve it turn down your input volume.
Q)I hear static in the background.
A)The input volume is too low. Try increasing it carefully. if the source input is very dynamic, with silences and very strong sound explosions it may seems difficult, but is always possible.
Q)The range is very limited.
A)Try moving the transmitter even by only 10-20 cm, often works.
Q)The battery last only 3 hours
A)It's true. But in Italy, at my local reseller, I have paid 10 euros for every additional battery (1 euro=1 dollar), and 20 euros a small additional 2 battery charger , so with 3 battery I can rotate them and get a 9 hours a day autonomy, which I think is enough for everyone.
Sorry for my english.
