Great speakers! January 9, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The sound is great from these speakers. The bass is what I was worried about since I have a 3/4 acre back yard with virtually no trees or structures to bounce off of. Securing them under the eave of the house was all I needed. Oh, and they crank out too!
The only issue I had was the hangers, they only swivel longitudinally, but the big wing nuts to attach the speaker to them made it very easy to mount 20 feet up.
Great sound outdoors! July 19, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I orginally had a pair of JVC outdoor speakers and a passive subwoofer on my patio. Within a year the weather and bugs destroyer the paper cones making them all defunct. I planned to replace the speakers and subwoofer with better quality units. These Polk speakers seem to be constructed much better than the JVC's, but the biggest surprise was the sound quality. These speakers produce great high, mid and low frequency output. The low frequency output is so good (it BOOMS) that I see no need to buy an outdoor subwoofer.
Great speakers - Grills, what can I say !?! September 8, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have had these speakers for a couple of months. They are mounted in my backyard and produce a very nice and crisp sound. I am very pleased and happy about the speakers and sound quality. So, the speakers get 5 stars! The grills however, are a different story. The industrial designer that came up with this idea probably looked at the sketch on the CAD/design program and figured it's very cool and they moved forward with it, without making a few prototypes and testing them for a period of time to see whether or not there are any issues. The perforated metal screen has very short lips and they fall out of the cut in the body of the structure easily, especially when the speakers are hanging at an angle from the wall. The mechanical engineer would have caught this, had they held a design review meeting, and they could have resolved this if they had seen the prototypes in action during the design phase. I'll have to look at them and see if there is a way to fix them so that they don't fall off, but then why did I pay the hefty price for these speakers in the first place? I hope the folks at Polk read this review and think twice next time they release a product. So, if you don't care about the grills, go for them, they are nice speakers, but the grills will not sit on them unless you use "superglue" or something else to hold them in place (not a recommendation obviously!!!)
Great sound, irritating grills September 16, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Beautiful sound throughout the range. Awesome power. But those grills keep falling off; hyper-irritating. Had to affix them with duct tape. Would have been a 5-star without this issue.
Great Outdoor Speaker October 10, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought these after listening to a neighbors pair that he had out around his unenclosed pool deck. They had been there for a year and looked brand new. He had another pair on his porch that were three years old and looked almost as good. The bass response on these babies, despite their size, has to be heard to be believed. The outside enviroment is murder on bass, but these speakers sound great! For the price and size, you can't beat them.
