Grandmas dilemma May 26, 2008 5 out of 25 found this review helpful
Years ago, when you could walk into Sears and buy an RCA,Zenith or GE tv set,go home and choose between channel 2,4,5,7,9,11,and 13 for Leave it to Beaver,Walter Cronkite,Lawrence Welk or Bonanza....and no manual needed and tv was FREE,it was so simple. There were no YEARLY models like a bumper or tail-light change on an automobile. Now,you choose from 29 different makes, each with 39 different models and a manual an inch thick with writing so small you need a microscope to read it.When it used to be vertical and horizontal adjust with brightness and contrast,it's now aspect ratio, dynamic contrast, usb ports,1080p,umpteen cables and we'll do the dishes for ya!..Ha!....not only that but get cable or dish network and be sure to have rg59 and not rg6 for the digital revolution, get a converter box along with it's remote to go along with the tv remote to go along with the dvd remote...well you get the idea....in the meantime, grandma fell asleep while you fumbled through the remote jungle and Lawrence Welk isn't on again untill next Sunday night! How's the tv you ask...FANTASTIC!....but the modern age is supposed to be simpler folks and when I walk into a bank and they tell me the computer is down,it's not simpler...they don't have my records available.I still have my money in the bank,I just can't get to it.When the cable tv goes out,I still have my tv but I can't watch it.....and..did anyone say anything about FREE tv? There are more buttons on three different remotes than you will ever use in a lifetime just to watch the Lakers or Babs. So,to sum up this little review,I still watch 2,4,5,7,9,11,and 13 and grandma can't see the numbers on the remote to change a channel let alone know what CNN is and says,'screw you',she'd rather watch her trusty, rusty Philco with the rabbit ears....I miss the good ole days. To improve the sound,I did use an old stereo amplifier with 4 speakers to get some theater ambiance and bypassed the tv's nasel stuff up tinny honk and BAM!....it's wonderful. The Lennon sisters sound beautiful and the HD is clear, crisp and Babs looks great!....This stuff isn't exactly user friendly for folks over...well you decide...and do I recommend it?....OH YEAH!...Samsung has got it goin on...I also recommend the good ole days....and simple...grandma wasn't as grouchy.
Samsung 52-inch LCD HDTV June 12, 2008 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
We love the tv. The picture when in HD is fantastic. The only drawback is the sound. The speakers are in the back. We had to hook up extra speakers in order to hear it. Over all we are very pleased with our purchase.
Very Good but not great June 20, 2008 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
I was a little bit spoiled with my 57" Hitachi rear projection TV. I think most people will tell you that a CRT is still better than Plasma or LCD when it comes to picture quality. Since the room I chose to set up my entertainment center in was smaller than the previous room, I could no longer use a rear projection unit. While I am not sorry I purchased this set, I am a little disappointed with the picture this set provides when not viewed head on. If this TV is viewed from an angle, the colors wash out - greens are not so green, reds are not so red, flesh tones are not as normal. This can be resolved if the TV is on the base by rotating the TV but it is not possible if wall mounted. Even with an ISF calibrated set-up, the picture does match my previous TV. Items in some sports programs seem to blur when the camera moves (i.e., the green grass when the camera follows a golf shot). I am told that this is not as effident in the A660 but I can't attest to that. Other than these minor problems I am very satisifed with my purchase - especially for the price.
Samsung 52" LCD HDTV June 25, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I would recommend this TV for anyone looking for LCD HDTV with less than 2000 budget. It has great picture and three HDMI inputs. For this price range this is the best LCD HDTV i have seen.
Superb TV, superb delivery, superb price July 18, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
We purchased this TV for lounge area in MBR. We agonized over 46" versus 52" and are extremely happy that we opted for the 52". The picture is wonderful and the swivel base allows us to angle TV to either sitting area or bed. Very happy that we opted for the matte screen rather than the polished screen on the 650 and 750 as our room is very bright. We paid $1809 which was a very fair and competitive price at time we ordered and received $100 credit when the price dropped four weeks later (within Amazon's 30 day price protection window). We are in remote area of NM yet the set was delivered and setup in just 4 days.
