Bad pixels January 28, 2008 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Had this TV for a week and it developed a line of dead pixels, growing from about a inch to the entire vertical height within a few days. Called Amazon to send it back, they were out of stock so could not replace it. And that's good too, seeing the number of occurrences of these cases. By the time the TV was picked up a couple of weeks later, it had developed multiple dead pixel lines all over the screen.
Wonder how Samsung sold these many products. Worry that all the models out there have the same problem that could develop over a period of time. Lucky that mine showed the problem within a few days and could return for a full refund.
Amazon sent me open box TV February 17, 2008 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I receivied this TV on 13th Feb, 2008. On arrival, the box sealing is broken. When we opened the box, the TV cover is broken and the LCD panel protecting cover is missing. Informed amzon about the same with in an hour of arrival the TV and Amazon is refusing to accept the truth. The TV shows full vertical lines on the Digital channels. I requested amazon about this and they are refusing to replace my TV and putting me into more trouble and asking me to contact Samsung for a repair. After contacting Samsung, I came to know through the the tchnician that the mother board of the TV is having problems and need to be replaced. Why do we need to provide Samsung case ID to replace the TV by Amazon? I asked Amzon the same and Amazon is not replying to these question. This looks like to me a very shaddy operation.
As per Samsung support, the definition of the "Defective TV" means the TV cannot be serviceable and my TV is serviceable, so it's not a defective TV. Very rude samsung support.
This is the biggest purchase I made at amazon and amzon customer support is so bad that they are refusing to accept the truch and asking me to contact every time the Samsung support. Finally they gave me an option to return the TV or get it service by Samsung.
Be ware of Amazon and Samsung support. This is very bad on Amazon side. They should rplace the open box item.
Great TV... too bad I didn't get it from Amazon February 27, 2008 11 out of 20 found this review helpful
I ordered this TV from Amazon because it had the best price. No shipping, no tax, and 18 months no interest to pay it off. How could I pass that up? My original order never made it to my home. I had to call the shipper to find out why I hadn't been called to schedule a delivery date and they told me the box was damaged and undeliverable. It had been sitting at the shipping place for 5 days before I called them. They told me that Amazon was notified but Amazon never called me. I had to call them (numerous times!). So I reordered and patiently awaited my next delivery. It took about 10 days (they can't rush TV orders) and I was so excited when the box was finally being carried into my home. It had been about 3 weeks from my original order date. As the delivery man was pulling the plastic off my TV, he had a perplexed look on his face. My smile drooped. What's wrong I said. He motioned me to look at the front. There on the TV screen were about ten 1/2 inch vertical stripes running down the center of the screen. It looked like water streaks were on the inside of the TV. We decided to plug it in anyway to see if those marks would go away. They turned into a colorful rainbow that brought no joy. While the delivery man was wrapping my TV back up I felt like crying. This was such a disappointment. When you order a TV half of the joy is the "get it now" feeling, which obviously wasn't happening. I called Amazon again. At this point I felt like this purchase wasn't a good idea. I did more research on the internet and found the same TV at Circuit City. Miraculously their price was really down and I got them to lower the price more. The shipping was free and I would be getting it in two days (I had already gotten rid of my other TV). I also got 12 months interest free. I still ended up paying $500 more than Amazon's price, but it was worth it to know that I'd have a TV in 2 days and if something goes wrong, I can call Circuit City for repair. You're screwed with Amazon. Plus the Circuit City guys spent 40 minutes at my house setting it up, hooking up all the other equipment and making sure everything was working before they left. The Amazon delivery guy told me he could only put it on the stand and plug it in. That said, once you get the phone number for the Amazon TV Customer Service, taking care of these issues were tolerable. Yet for all my trouble, Amazon could only offer me a $20 credit on my next Amazon order. I think it should have been more like $100. I don't feel like ordering anything from Amazon now. If you want this TV, you should get it. The picture is amazing! So clear and it looks like you are right there when you are watching an HD channel. Awesome TV, but my advice is GET IT SOMEWHERE ESLE! I give Amazon 1 star or less, I give the Samsung TV 5 stars plus!
Detailed letter to a friend in the electronics industry about this TV follows: December 20, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
First, I'll get the advertisement out of the way: Buying from Amazon was a 100% totally good experience. The delivery guy brought in the TV, unpacked it, set it up, turned it on to be sure everything was working OK, and briefly went over the high points. White glove service indeed! When Amazon dropped the price within 30 days, I sent them an email and was immediately credited with the difference.
The facts: 52 inch Samsung model LNT5271F the room is: 15.5 feet wide North to South. 23 feet wide East to West. 12 foot ceiling with 6 100 watt recessed soft lights on a rheostat. Window on the West Wall with opaque curtains that can easily be open or closed. 3 entry ways. One on each of the North (far East side of wall, enters into hall way, minor affect on lighting), South (far West side of all, enters into breakfast area, minor affect on lighting), and East wall (far South side of wall, enters into entry hall for front door, minor affect on lighting and rarely used). The TV is: 54 inches from the floor to the bottom of the picture. Placed against the East wall more or less centered. 16 feet from the primary viewing seat. Adjustments from default settings: one only. On all three setting (dynamic, standard, movie) I have adjusted white from 15 to 10 (picture, detail settings, my color control, white). I originally found the whites to be too bright. No one else in the family agrees, so it is probably a function of the cataract in my right eye. The adjustment is OK with them, and it has resolved my issue. Input sources: Dish Network and Toshiba HD DVD player. The DVD player has upscaling technology for stardard DVDs. Comments so far: We occassionally, but rarely use dynamic. It is bright enough that you could watch the TV outside at the beach. If I were to split up the time in the different modes I would say 80% standard, 15% movie, 5% dynamic. Glare, reflection, and those sorts of things really haven't been a problem since we have so much control over the lighting. They very likely might be a problem in a setting with less control over the lighting. The picture quality in SD, even at 16 feet, is nothing to brag about. It's OK with the smoothing algorithms that they have, but not as good as the old standard CRT 27 inch Sony. Most of what we are interested in is broadcast in HD. The picture quality in HD from 5 feet on back is fabulous. The picture quality with the upscaling technology in the DVD player is very good. Nothing to complain about.
Viewing angle is not an issue from anyplace in the room that someone would sit. Would I get a 52 inch set again? Yes, absolutely, I love the big picture. And my viewing habits pretty much gravitate to the HD stuff. Would I get the brightest picture on the showroom floor again? Yep, since I have so much control over the room lighting. Would I recommend it in general to other people? Probably not. The equivalent Sony XBR4 series is more of a matte technology which, in my opinion, allows for a better picture if you don't have as much control over the lighting. How much HD does someone's input source have? If they are going to be watching a lot of SD TV, a smaller set would probably be a good idea. Elevate the TV at least as much as we have. It is great to get it up above all the stuff in the room. We tried lower first. Higher is definitely better. Besides, we are in the age of bifocals. The top of the lens is where the viewing occurs.
I hope this helps you make a good decision. Good luck!!
DOD.....LCD was Dead On Delivery January 2, 2008 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
Wow, this has been a disappointment so far. After days of excitement anticipating the arrival of this TV only to have a "dead" one delivered. Anyone had this issue? I saw one previous posting and he left it unplugged overnight and that did the trick. I'll be checking this in the morning. Performed the initial wiring HDMI setup, turned the tv on, the blue light bar lit up, but the menu failed to display after being commanded. Tried the source button too. Plan on calling amazon in the morning for a replacement. I'm going to check the avsforum next. What a let down.... Update 1-3-08: Called Amazon customer service. No problems, new one on the way....thanks amazon...
