1 out of 5 stars Buyer beware... this TV is prone to developing lines of dead pixels   January 18, 2008

I am now extremely disappointed with the whole experience with this LNT5271F model. I ordered my set a couple weeks before Christmas. It was delivered on Dec 18th and worked fine for the first day. On the second day, a short line of dead pixels showed up near the center of the screen and kept growing. On the fifth day, the line had grown so that it ran from top to bottom of the screen.
I called Amazon customer service to report the dead pixels problem and ask for a replacement. A day later a got an email saying that the department does not stock replacement parts for dead pixels. I would have to contact Samsung directly for that. Evidently the person I was dealing with thought that pixels were parts that could be replaced (duh). So I called Amazon customer service again and this time talked a fellow who completely understood my problem. He was apologetic for the confusion and worked to have the replacement unit ordered for me.
The replacement unit arrived on Dec 31st. The deliver person also picked up the defective unit which I had tried to put back in the original packaging the best I could. The second TV worked fine until today, which is about 18 days. Now, there are two short lines of dead pixels on the screen. And if my prediction is correct, these lines will continue to grow and they will run from top to bottom of the screen in a few days.
While I agree with all the reviews about the great picture quality of this model, I can no longer ignore the number of defective units that have been reported. This is a serious quality issue if you look at the number of cases reported so far, especially for an item that costs $$$$ coming from Samsung, a supposedly reputable manufacturer of LCD displays. This will definitely hurt Samsung's reputation and if not careful how it handles this problem, Amazon's customer service may end up hurting its own reputation in the process as well.
Now I've got to call Amazon customer service again and get rid of the defective replacement unit. I just can't believe how this has turned out. First I thought I was unlucky, now I believe there is something wrong systematically! So if you're thinking of buying this model, beware of the dead pixels problem. It will be a gamble.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing TV   November 24, 2007

This TV is absolutely amazing. The picture is crisp, clear, and has great black levels. The automotion plus feature gives a "soap opera" type look to movies, almost like it was filmed with a home video camera.

The price is so good on amazon, and the delivery only took a few days. I would definitely buy another tv from amazon again.

There are users with this tv who get a triple ball effect or stuttering with automotion on. If you call Samsung, they can send you a new firmware that fixes it. There are two different firmware models, the 1000 firmwares (1013.1 is the newest as of now) and the 2000 firmwares (2004 is the newest as of now). The 2000 models seem to be the best right now. If you have 10xx right now, you can only upgrade to 1013.1 or future firmwares with 10xx in them, and with 20xx you can only upgrade to 2004 or future firmwares with 20xx in them.

2 out of 5 stars it CAN happen to you   February 5, 2008

YUP!!! "dead pixel lines" i purchased this tv from amazon. after the 30 day return expired i burned the box and everything seemed to be going well, then one day i started to see these small colorful lines on the screen, i thought the grand kids had marked it with a magic marker, but oh no, they started to spread like a virus. now the lines have extended from top to bottom and the number of them is growing.

i called samsung who gave me the name of a samsung service center that was about 100 miles from my house that they were going to send for repair. i called them and sent them digital pictures of the problem and we did some initial diagnostics. this company never got the approval to come fix the tv, so i called samsung back, they said they would not pay for the authorized samsung service center to travel to my house to fix the tv. but that they were going to send a local company not a authorized service center. the company they are now sending out is a sony dealer and a authorized sony service center. i had purchased sony lcd's from that company in the past and they are still working perfectly after several years. i also had purchased an early sharp for about 8000 dollars way back then and its still going strong. i wish i had bought the sony locally even though it was more money.

as of this writing the sony dealer has still not received the authorization for repair, but they told me i would not be a priority and it would be 2 weeks before they could get to me. which is ironic because the original samsung authorized center could get too me in a couple of days even though they were 100 miles further away.

i will update this review as time tells us further what happens. if they get it taken care of the star rating will go up, sometimes things break, it can happen and there is no fault. i'm sure there are those who have purchased sony's and sharp's that also broke down. i just dont want my warranty to run out and this tv start having problems again. we shall see.
UPDATE:
it is now march 22 08, and guess what, the tv is still not fixed, samsung has the panels on back order. do not buy this product, dont buy a samsung tv. amazon wont allow me to lower the star rating but if i could i'd lower it to a 1 star.

5 out of 5 stars Demoed at Best Buy - One Word - WOW!   August 26, 2007

I don't own this unit but I did get a first hand demonstration at Best Buy in Boynton Beach, FL in August 2007. The 120HZ technology is unbelievable. It almost makes a movie look 'too real'... it's kind of hard to describe without actually seeing it. The jump in video quality exceeds the jump from even DVD to Blu-Ray... more like from black & white to color! I'm not sure yet if I'm ready to watch a movie this lifelike... but you can disable the motion technology and watch in 'standard high-def'.

1 out of 5 stars Worked for 10 Minutes!   January 7, 2008
13 out of 13 found this review helpful

TV was delivered by Eagle and set up. After it was powered on it worked for a few minutes then clicked on/off twice. I turned it off with the remote a few moments later and it never turned on again! Samsung was very matter of fact, never once apologizing that my new TV didn't work. Not offering any suggestions. They gave me a repair number/service and I am waiting for them to call me back. We will see what happens. I am more inclined to return rather work with a faulty set that needs to be repaired on the first day!
