Defective upon arrival, but great now September 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We own a 42" version of this TV which we love, and decided to add a 50" downstairs. The TV arrived with a defect -- a two-inch vertical line on the left side of the screen which never went away. Everything else was working ok. After many attempts to get through to Panasonic customer support, they arranged in-home service for the TV. The technician replaced one board and it now works perfectly. We love it now. The technician commented that he purchased the 720P version of this TV because Panasonics have fewer problems than the other brands they work on, including Samsung.
CALL Manufacturer's regarding EXACTLY HOW their warranty "WORKS" BEORE you buy!! October 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had ours Panasonic 50" Plasmasince July of this year 2008), I have a bunch of kids & was leary of the track record of some of these other manufacturers I was considering, in regards to warranty assistance SHOULD the need arrive!
I tried (I repaeat TRIED!!) to contact several manufacturer's that were in the running for my consideration, in regards to their warranties, WHO, WHERE HOW...etc would I send/take my humongous plasma to? I am VERY rural (in the hills of TN!) MOST of them required I SHIP it to them!Do you know how big those boxes are that they come in? & the logistics of repacking it.........NOPE! "It aint a-happenin'!" NO WAY do I have the room to store that big box, which would be needed to send it to them (& the cost!! Bad-WOW!)
Anyhow.... after MUCH deliberation & research I went with Panasonic (as their warranty is INTO YOUR HOME REPAIR SERVICE should you need a repair, GOOD-WOW!! :-)
I bought this as an older model with GREAT comsumer reviews,& a good value as the newer models continue to roll out & the price continues to fall! I have been EXTREMELY pleased, & nothing has happened so far to need any warranty work!
The TV is crisp & clear, plays beautifully!
I don't think anyone would be unhappy with any Panasonic TV, I haven't seen a bad one yet......& NO, I don't have any stock (or work for panasonic!!) LOL.....just a bunch of kids & needed a dependable, quality TV....
In hindsight........the ONLY thing is, now that we've had it awhile,,,it actually looks SMALL to us!
We all want a BIGGER one! At least with all the research I've already done on Manufacturer's & their warranties (some are absolutely WORTHLESS!) I only will have to look for the best deal on the bigger screens! Hope this helps, 'cuz what good is a great deal on a TV IF you can't get it fixed should you need to!
Magnificent! June 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not an audio or video expert, just your average joe who appreciates a great television experience. I've been pining for an HDTV for several years, tried to be patient until the quality increased and the prices decreased. This year I started doing some research and settled on this particular TV. I was astounded by the price difference between Amazon and the box stores, but was hesitant to make such a serious purchase over the internet, but it was simply an offer I couldn't refuse. I placed the order on a Monday morning, received a call on Friday afternoon that the TV was ready to be delivered, and it came on Saturday morning. The delivery guys brought it in and opened it up. A friend and I bolted it to the stand, plugged it in and connected the cable. Nothing to it.
I was amazed at the quality with just the regular cable signal. It would be a few days before the cable company could bring an HD box, but man, when we got that connected -- I ordered an HDMI cable at the same time so they brought me an HDMI HD converter -- and it was love at first view! The cable guy said he does this all day long and he didn't think he'd seen a better picture. I subscribe to all the premium movie channels and sports channels, so all of that in HD is just overwhelming. At times, it honestly looks like a 3D image.
I'm toying with the idea of one of these upconverting DVD players. A clerk at Radio Shack told me he got one and that it did make quite a difference in picture quality with an HDTV and an HDMI connection, so at some point I may spring for that while waiting for the BluRay players to come down in price.
Anyway, I couldn't be more pleased with the product and the service and price from Amazon.
If you're in the market for a plasma TV, definitely give this one a look!
excellent product. June 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent product. Very happy with it in every way. Stable stand - no need to purchase a separate stand.
Awesome Quality June 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have always been very reluctant about plasma tvs but after reading about and reserching the newest models from Panasonic and the upgraded technology I became a believer. The picture on this tv is really incredible. Great contrast and color with amazing blacks. Love the game mode which now enables you to to safely play your video games. With the anti image retention setting I feel much safer about the chance of screen burn. The new antireflective screen does a great job cutting down the amount of glare and relection. The only thing I am not crazy about is the sound quality. I find it to be on the weak side but it is not a big issue since I have the TV hooked up to my stereo system. All in all I highy recommend this set for its quality and performance.
