My [cheap] rabbit ears gave me better reception! May 6, 2002 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
I thought that if I was going to pay [alot more money] for an antenna, I was going to get perfect reception, I was wrong. I can get a great picture on only one side of my house, the trouble is my bedroom TV is on the other side. I hoped that if I mounted this antenna on the outside of the house on the "good" side, I would get a clear picture. However, before I did this I decided to test the antenna. I connected a 75ft cable to my bedroom tv and dragged to the other side of the house to a tv that gets great reception. I hooked up the antenna and ran back to the bedroom to look at the great reception I was going to get. To my surprise it was worse than what I had prior. I then removed the Terk antenna and attached my $2 rabbit ears to the 75ft cable (still on the good side of the house) and got perfect reception. Just to be sure, I went ahead and crawled on my roof and tested the Terk. Awful reception! Again, I tried my rabbit ears on the roof and had great reception. The Terk has been returned and I am now going to waterproof my rabbit ears and stick them on the roof. This is my second and last try with a Terk product. I purchased and kept the [price] TerkQ radio antenna and found it to be worse than the antenna that came with the stereo. I will never try Terk again.
Poor Performance, get a traditional UHF antenna instead January 18, 2005 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
The TV55 performed very poorly pulling in only 2 digital stations. Using unamplified rabbit ears, I got 6 digital stations. I really cannot understand why it performed so poorly.
Instead, I purchased a traditional UHF antenna (Radio Shack #15-2160 $24 with transformer #15-1140 $3.50) and got 14 stations with the antenna in my attic.
I think the real problem is not lack of signal strength, it is a problem of multi-path interference. The TV55 is not a very directional antenna. So I think it was getting a signal directly from the TV tower and a second signal that was bounced off of something. The second signal is delayed and conflicts with the first. The result is the the Samsung SIR-T351 HDTV receiver does not know what to do with this signal. In other words, good signal strength, but bad signal quality.
The RadioShack antenna is more directional. So it doesn't get this bounced seond signal. The result is a solid signal and good image on the TV set. I am only 7 miles from the broadcast towers, so perhaps I am especially prone to multipath problems. Your experience might be different. However, I cannot recommend this antenna. Try a traditional UHF antenna to receive HDTV.
My apologies February 28, 2005 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I wish to retract my criticism of the antenna which I recently submitted. I thought that I had a problem with the antenna, when in fact I needed to reset my HD receiver box. The antenna is now working quite well and I am very pleased. Sorry Terk HDTV.
Great Antenna for Outdoor Reception March 19, 2003 13 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have read about the inconsistent reception if you install the antenna inside. But since it is trying to pick up a digital signal and should be line-of-sight with the broadcast signal, it should be installed outdoors. With that said, install the antenna outside (with an Antenna Rotator) and you should see surprising results. I am approx. 30 miles from the broadcast source, and the signal is very strong and the picture is very clear. The amplifier that is included is important if you have to install a lengthy cable from antenna to your TV. Must use a RG6 cable.
Really Works for HDTV March 26, 2002 12 out of 18 found this review helpful
Couldn't get analog (NTSC) reception to come in very clear, but was able to get perfect HDTV reception after moving the antenna to different parts of the house (indoor). The higher up the better. With HDTV you will either get perfect reception or no reception at all. When I first plugged it in, I was hoping it would be plug and play. But you really have to point the antenna perfectly or you won't get a picture. It took some adjusting, but it was definitely worth the time. The HDTV picture is breath-taking! As long as you have a HDTV set-top receiver, HD-Ready TV, and live in/near an area broadcasting HDTV, then I can't find much fault in this antenna.
