Just wanted to take a few moments to share my thoughts. I purchased this system as a gift to my wife because she loves to work around the house listening to music. She originally let it be known that Bose is the best system in the world but i thought otherwise. Aside from being overpriced and acknowledging that they are very good I investigated further and called on my past associations with name brands. Harmon Kardon, Pioneer, Teac, Marantz and Onkyo stood out. Some are still around others are not. I am not an audio connosseur but I know a good sound when I hear it. I can separate great sound from crapola. After checking several systems at my local electronics I narrowed it down to Onkyo which has been around since after WWII and still making speakers. I ordered it and my wife is in heaven and so am I. The sound fills up our 15 x 20 living room with no problem whatsoever. Our movie and concert DVD's sound fantabulous and you cannot go wrong for the price. Go for it, you won't be sorry. It was easy to setup and took about 45 minutes worth of connections and that was it. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. The sub woofer is larger that I expected but all else is on the money.

I did a lot of research of budget HTIB and this seemed like the best choice for my budget. I was blown away with how well they perform. Out of the box these sounded a lot better than my friends Panasonic HTIB that includes the DVD changer and the wireless back speakers. (I do not recommend wireless back speakers for 2 reasons. 1. The speakers hiss and once in a while do not produce sound. 2. Wireless speakers broadcast over the same wavelength as wireless internet, often causing my computer to go off line.)
After I got the Onkyo I did what a lot of other people have said to do, I upgraded the speaker wire. I bought some Belkin 16-Gauge Speaker Cable from Amazon. Once I hooked up this cable the sound system came to life. Do not stick with the standard cable that comes with the system.
I hooked up my XBOX 360, and the attached HDDVD player, with a digital optical cable and the sound that comes out is chillingly realistic.

This product replaced a older Onkyo HT-S570 5.1 sound system.....
This Onkyo home theater system sounds amazing compared to the HT-S570.. Crystal clear sound, amazing bass from the subwoofer. HD-DVD (xbox 360 addon) and BluRay (PS3) movies sound amazing in DD5.1 and DTS (This system has 2 optical inputs so you can plug both in).. I don't think you can get better than this for less than $300......
The only thing I would have liked would have been HDMI input/output, and Dolby TrueHD, but to get HDMI and Dolby TrueHD you are looking $1000+... Again for $300 this system sounds amazing.

Great system for the price. They have one shortcoming I discoverd, the RC cables are junk! Set up went easy enough but several days later a 'hum' developed in the system through the sub-woofer. One of the RC cables was shorted inside or near the connector. Upon close inspection one could see that these cables were not the kind of cable that this system should be shipped, to the customers, with. If I had not discovered the problem I would have had to haul the enrtire system 25 miles to the nearest "authorized ONKYO dealer" for repairs. For a bad cable this would have angered me in no small way. Offer better cables and charge a bit more, your customers would be better off for that, trust me.

This is one amazing sound system for the price. Its the perfect system that compliments my Sharp Aquos TV (also an amazing product) in an apartment space . The subwoofer (larger than I expected) kicks some serious you know what. Just pop in a movie like King Kong and you'll hear the sound quality. I am very pleased with this sound system so far. I have recommended this product to all my friends looking for an above average system. I hope this helps in your shopping thinking...
