Plays well-like the other Phillips DVD players February 16, 2008

I bought this player for my best friend as a birthday present. I had bought two region free players last year--both were the discontinued Phillips 640 model--and they have worked fine. I bought this one from a dealer as a refurbished model; when my friend opened it and when we put in the DVD (that I'd purchased from the UK) it did not play. I immediately checked the Amazon website and thanks to one of the reviews I was able to get it to play the UK discs and the ones bought here in the US as well. I know my friend is happy because she can now see the Bad Girls series without having to wait for it to crawl by every week on one of the cable channels. This is a very good choice for a region free player and also works well as the "everyday" player for your movie watching as well.

We bought this player for a 13" TV/VHS unit. Because we have several European region DVD's with cartoons, the region-free capability was important to us. Appears to work fine with US and European DVD's. This is a very good choice for a region free player and also works well as the "everyday" player for your movie watching as well.

Having lived in the UK for several years, I had many DVDs from Region 2 that I got tired of watching on my notebook computer. Investing $80 (with shipping) in this nifty little machine was a great idea. Following the instructions to change the region setting to region free, (that another reviewer helpfully posted), I then inserted my disc and hoped all would be well. It was. Haven't used it much yet, and I must say that when I turn on the power the machine makes some rather disconcerting noises, but so far so good!

Just received this unit thru Fed Ex, plugged it in and played my new Status Quo, Doin it live, it worked perfect, & I didnt' have to put in any codes for this 2,3,4,& 5 region dvd. It also plays region 1 good also. I ordered & received it within 4 days.

a good player--bought it just to see concerts (in region 2) I recently found out there were 6 regions. Only two complaints about the player--
1. No HDMI outputs
2. NOT even a S-Video ouput
