5 out of 5 stars Works great, lasts a long time   April 4, 2002

I purchased the JVC about 7 months ago, prior to getting my knee replaced. After surgery, I watched an average of 25 to 30 dvd's a week while I was recovering. With the exception of bad or dirty dvd's the unit did not lock up once. Although I do not have an hdtv, I do have a high end analog TV and a 5.1 surround system. The dvd works perfectly, picture and sound quality are excellent. It does a great job on cd-rw's and mp3's. I am glad I purchased the unit

1 out of 5 stars Good when it worked   December 3, 2002

Produced fine quality images on my HDTV -- when it worked. However, it has suddenly gone on the blink after less than one year of fairly light use, failing to recognize certain DVD's and occasionally displaying mysterious onscreen messages telling me it is "searching for software updates".

Needless to say, it's been sent back to the manufacturer for attention. While parts are still under warranty, labor costs are only covered for 90 days. With current new product prices and technician billing rates, it may not be justified to repair the thing.

Bottom line is that I am not terribly pleased with the quality of this product, and would recommend considering similar alternatives from other manufacturers.

5 out of 5 stars The best!   February 8, 2002
This player is the best I've run across. It plays just about any disk media, and does a superb job. I have a JVC TV, and a JVC VCR. Connecting them with AV Comu-Link lets me put the disk or tape in and sit dow. The televion turns itself on, selects the proper set of inputs and plays.
The picture quality is excellent,( you can really tell a bad transfer to disk ). I don't have a HDTV, so I can't vouch for the progressive scan, the regular picture is plenty fine for me.
The DTS/ 5.1 outputs give you beautiful surround sound. Even through a small system like my AIWA bookshelf set-up- it is the only one I've seen with 5.1 inputs (but that's another review).
The set-up menus are easy to navigate and very user friendly.
The zoom and angle features are great, and the "strobe" button lets you see things fram by frame- AWESOME!
A terrific player and a great price.

4 out of 5 stars Cheap higher end DVD player   March 6, 2002
I bought this DVD player because I like the JVC brand. I am in no way an Electronics expert but I do alot of research before I buy. This DVD was about everything I needed. i wanted a CD/MP3 player, so I didn't have to get a CD player. It also has progressive scran which seemed great but I have an HDTV and it hasn't seemed to work. The DVD player is inputted to the Component of the TV but the DVD never recognizes it, so the player never uses the progressive scan mode. That's pretty much my only gripe with the player. The MP3 player doesn't have a random option but I can deal with that. I don't know if the progressive scan doesn't work on every player but I couldn't seem to get this one to work.
