Piece of JUNK!!!! July 24, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these door stops in MAY! I have payed for shipping to send it back to Toshiba under warranty. The device would not remember its programming. The original unit had bad memory. The new unit I got in JULY, has the same problem. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE!!!
Had 2 Of Them. Both Had Problems September 1, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
My First one Bought in August 07 was made in May 07 and It would forget the channels every few days So when I went to Turn it On It would have to rescan for channels. The 2nd One Also Made in May 07 but Later A Serial Number While I had it connected over HDMI to my Samsung HDTV the Audio and Video would be Out of sync. The Video would be ahead by 1 or 2 Seconds. It would go away for a day and be In sync but then It would come back and be out of sync. the weird thing is Over Component Every thing was fine but I bought this for the Upconverting so Component is Useless to me. Other then those 2 Problems I liked the Player so I hope in a few months some better Quality Ones will be out there.
Digital tuner is fast, but lost presets. November 11, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this for my girlfriend so she could get digital tv on her anolog CRT, since converter boxes are not out yet. The tuner has good antenna distance reception, and changes digital channels faster than any I have seen. Broadcast image quality is ok, but a bit dark compared to my Pioneer Elite HD tv. Since the reviews warned about losing presets, I have been testing it for her. Worked fine for 2 weeks, and yesterday when I turned it on...NO TV CHANNELS! As every other brand of DVD recorder/tuner combo has multiple shortcomings, I was hoping this one was going to work (I am really sick of testing them). I will call Toshiba and see if they have a fix for the problem yet, but I'm not optimistic. Other cons: Can't delete one minor digital channel without losing all of same major #, can't scroll anolog and digital channels without changing tuners, no tv control on remote.
Excellent Replacement for VHS Recorders September 30, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I read all the other reviews and I can say I have had no issues with this product. My goal was to replace VHS recorders with a DVD Recorder. I needed the capability to record on one television and playback on any of 3 other televisions, so a Tivo-type recorder wouldn't work. The Toshiba D-R550 has worked flawlessly. I use DVD+RW disks and have had absolutely no problem watching recorded television programs, without finalizing the disks, on other DVD players (even a 4 year old Sony DVD player). Recording is easy and the picture quality is excellent.
so far so good, but it lost chanels September 28, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have tried its recording and used it as the ATSC OTA receiver in the last 3 months. It worked OK so far, except one thing: the player lost channels every few days. It's really annoying that I have to rescan channels every 2-3 days.
Upconversion to 1080p doesn't work ( I have a 1080p LCD TV), but can only get 720p or 1080i.
Their tech support is lying that 1 in 10K units has this problem (see other review). From the limited number of reviews, the problem of losing channels is prolific (4 out of 7 reviews have this problem). Toshiba, shame on you to put defective products for sale!
