Sony DVPNC85H/B 5-Disc HDMI DVD/SA-CD/CD Changer January 27, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Have only used it a few times, but appears to play DVDs, CDs and MP3 music (recorded to compact disc) okay. Took the place of a failed 5 disc CD player and a single disc DVD player. It does what I wanted, so I'm happy.
Excellent Upgrade March 9, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I currently have an older model Sony DVD 5-Disc changer and decided to upgrade to this newer model because I recently upgraded my whole theater system to HD. I too have a Sony Bravia 46" and upgrading my Sony changer was the last item I needed to do. Now I'm all HDTV and Sony keeps doing it right time after time. The simple HDMI connections make it easy to enjoy all HD components. Only thing you need is an HD Hub which has come in very handy. All my components now work thru a remote hub into one HDMI input on my TV. No quality loss at all going through a hub and the Sony 5-Disc changer was the one component I was missing to complete my system.
Because they are under $150 it's a must buy. You may not be able to watch all 5 DVD's in one sitting as one person complained but if you and the wife sit down to watch something and get disturbed then you can go back but you can also put in your own DVD that she may not like and watch on your own.
So buy the multi-disc player, load it up with your 5 favorite and play them at your own leisure. It's an excellent player... buy it now!
Does the job nicely March 28, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
The price is right, it loads quickly and works reliably. A good set of features for the price.
I admit I miss the 6 disc capacity of my Onkyo and the Onkyo's ability to play one disc while changing others. However what I don't miss is the Onkyo's frequent breakdowns, requiring two repairs (which is why I dumped it). The Sony is a better machine
Does NOT do SA-CD! July 21, 2006 7 out of 27 found this review helpful
Contrary to the amazon item listing title, this player does NOT do SACD, as far as I can tell. There is no mention of it in the manual (or the product description) and there are no analog outputs out the back of the player, as you'd expect. It's POSSIBLE that the SACD surround sound is being sent out over the HDMI connection, but I doubt it.
I guess SACD is yet another Sony system that they've thrown over. Remember Beta? Minidiscs? Sheesh.
Fine value September 2, 2006 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a really fine product. Minutes to set up, flawless reproduction, seamless performance. I'm not sure what the reviewer above me meant by it doesn't do SACD though he/she might be right about it not being in the manual. SACD will play in a great many DVD players with optical (as the Sony has) or co-ax digital audio out. I've had this player five hours and have not been able to stump it with a format or a less than stellar condition DVD. I typically am not impressed with Sony products in general, but this is an excellent unit. Well worth the money.
