LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT December 11, 2007 70 out of 71 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R463XV857BLTY This short video was done with the Flip and the software provided. The star of the video is Paige, my adopted greyhound. It's been a lot of fun. I bought 10 Flips for Christmas gifts.
Working Good So Far, Even with My Mac! December 8, 2007 61 out of 65 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1RZKB5BH3TE7 This is a sample clip I shot today. I shot 78 clips (about 15 minutes of video) today. I loaded them to my Mac without any problem, and later I edited a short video in iMovie. I was concerned after reading some reviews by other Mac users, but so far things are working. The record button sometimes needs a second or third press to record/stop. The video quality is fair, but I like the portability and ease of use. I would recommend. (OS X 10.4.1; iMovie HD 5.0.2)
UPDATE 12/25/2007: Just shot 230+ clips (about 50 minutes) of holiday video. I uploaded them to my MAC to edit in iMovie. So far it is still working fine. It did take a few minutes to load and save the clips, but there was a lot to load. Also, I did update the firmware as recommended on the Pure Digital website; however I had to use my PC to get the update since it not yet available for the MAC. Here is another clip I shot today.
Great video recorder!!! December 3, 2007 60 out of 65 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2DH8V1YCI1FCX I know that I'm not talking in the video. That's not the point. The point is that I had never used a digital video recorder in my life, never used video editing software, and never uploaded a video before today. Honestly, I think I was scared of the technology a little and didn't want to feel like an idiot. After reading other reviews of how easy Flip worked, I decided to buy one. It was incredibly simple. I love this little thing. I can't put it down and the picture and sound quality is GREAT for the price.
Flip Flops on a Mac November 27, 2007 57 out of 61 found this review helpful
The Flip will not work on the OSX Leopard. After spending hours "upgrading" it on a PC to make it work on my Mac (as recommended by the Flip support team), I then had to "upgrade" again when I plugged it to the Mac. A lot of time spent to find out that the "upgrades" only allow me to watch the video on my mac- no editing, no uploading/downloading or using it with the imovie program. The Flip company assures me they are working on an upgrade for the Leopard- but no release date in sight...I wish I had known this before I purchased the product.
Do not buy this product if you have a Mac OSX.
Good quality and very easy to use September 24, 2007 49 out of 52 found this review helpful
I got one of these after reading a review on Macworld's website. I'm working on an oral history project for Princeton University and was hoping to find camcorder that was not too expensive and was also easy to use b/c I will be sending it out to alumni across the country to capture their memories of college and the Princeton experience. A lot of our target respondents are older and not all are technically savvy.
I wasn't too sure what to expect for under 200 bucks but I after doing research on Amazon and seeing how many positive reviews were written about the Flip Video model, I decided to get an Ultra model which appeared to have a few extra features and more memory.
I have to say it works exactly as advertised. It was easy to record and the sound quality was great for recording voices and didn't pick up too much background noise. I decided to test it among my friends to see how quickly they could use it and no one had any troubles. Perhaps most importantly for my needs, the memory is built-in so I don't have to worry about people losing memory cards or having to figure out how to take them in and out of the unit. My next step is to start circulating this for my project, if all goes well I'll probably buy a half dozen of these for our project.
