Amazon.com Product Description
The Samsung HCM4215WX projection HDTV monitor is designed to be the ideal alternative to heavier and bulkier 36-inch picture-tube TVs. Its 42-inch widescreen viewing area is set in a smart-looking charcoal-gray cabinet, making it a great choice for big-screen enjoyment in smaller rooms. At the heart of the set, three high-resolution 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect video system with excellent brightness and contrast. The RealFlect video system incorporates high-quality, data-grade lenses for optimum picture detail and a high-performance first-surface mirror that ensures high brightness and image clarity.

NTSC-to-480-progressive-scan line doubling converts incoming analog sources (like VCR, cable, or non-progressive-scan DVD) to a progressive-scan 480p display, eliminating conventional TV scan lines for a "flicker free" picture. Samsung's PerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the push of a button. Flicker-free progressive-scan picture performance eliminates the scan lines visible in analog projection TVs.

A protective screen with high contrast properties protects the display surface from scratches and reduces glare from ambient light, while auto clock set reads universal time code (UTC) from broadcast signals to set the internal clock. The set's 30-watt stereo audio system delivers ample sound for any entertainment venue. When you're ready for the world of high-definition TV, just add an HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy digital HDTV broadcast programming. Connections consist of three composite video inputs (one front, two rear), two S-video inputs (one front, one rear), one set of DVD 480P/480i (Y, Pb, Pr) component-video inputs, one set of HDTV 480P/1080i component-video (Y, Pb, Pr) inputs, and dual RF terminals for separate cable and broadcast reception.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely a great projection HDTV.   December 9, 2002

I've had some worries of getting a projection TV. I thought the contrast as well as the brightness wouldn't be that good. However, after spending a week going through different online stores and electronic stores in my town I decided to try it. It is a great TV. It is a wide screen which makes it great for viewing DVD's, also it has great picture for regular cable TV. The extra connectors in the back make it possible for you to connect up to 5 different sources in such as VCR, DVD, cable, Satelite, computer.....I only have a couple HD channels available from my provider, but they are worth it, they really put the TV'c features to work. I would definetly reccomend this TV, it has a clear 42" screen, is HDTV ready and it is a good value for the money. There is alot more functions that I could talk about, but overall you have to try out this TV, its great.
The only problems that I have encountered was that when I got the TV I had to spent like an hour trying to set it up, which was VERY annoying. Also I tried setting up different Universal remotes to control the TV, but they dont work all the time (they do on other TV's) so I just have to use the TV remote provided. Also, you cannot sit too far up or too far down when watching this TV because the contrast will totally change.

1 out of 5 stars Samsung hcm4215wx 42   December 18, 2002

I bought this T.V a couple of weeks ago and just received it on the December 13th. It was set up and running fine. The brightness and picture quality were great. The sound was also good. My problems with this Samsung started on day 4. The set just quit working, kaput, dead. Push the on switch and hear an electronic "click" and that is it. This is the same thing that happened to my other Samsung but it took 7 years before it died. I had heard that Samsung had improved their products, but my experiance says no they haven't. Good luck to those of you who have purchaced one of these T.V.'s but I'm returning mine and buying a Toshiba 42".

4 out of 5 stars Good TV, but expensive upgrades   December 8, 2002

I bought this television hoping for the best picture quality possible. But I learned you must have a progressive scan DVD player with ...monster cables to get good video picture and for HDTV resolution while watching television you must have a satellite dish with the [fairly costly]HDTV reciever. I love the widescreen aspect, but if you want to watch the regular square aspect you get grey bars on the left and right side of the set, instead of black, which would be better for lights out viewing. Although it is expensive and the upgrades are too, I would recomend this television for anyone in love with the wide aspect ratio. The upgrades can be purchased in steps as you desire better and better picture that fit your wants.

1 out of 5 stars poof-darkness-hey do you smell something burning???   January 17, 2003

well folks
I wouldn't give this a single star except it does do a great job WHEN it works! We bought the first of these televisions on 12/12 and on 12/22 (MERRY CHRISTMAS!) while watching a video the television suddenly shut off and smelled like it was burning inside--exactly what happened to clo2471! Unsuspecting this entire line is a lemon, we returned it to Costco and they gave us ANOTHER one, figuring maybe the first one was just a defective tv.
Well the second one they gave us was also the last one in the store, the floor model(which had been running approx. one month). We took it home, set it up, enjoyed our movies/cable until... yesterday-- Same thing. Halfway through Mary Poppins dvd, click, poof. Nothing but that burning smell. OY.
We tried it again hours later just like Samsung suggested you guys do. Well I have to report that it's dead, deceased, demised, ceases to exist. We have an ex-television.
We even had the electric company out last night checking for voltage spikes or problems with our service and nothing is wrong with our home, our electric service, our wiring. It's the bloody tv!

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   January 7, 2003

I bought this TV on Nov. 15, 2002, and I had the same problem as one of the other reviewers. All of a sudden, the TV turned off and there was a burning smell. The Samsung Customer Service Line said to unplud the TV and wait a half an hour and try it again. You shouldn't have to do this, right? I'm thinking I'd just take it back and replace it with the 40" Panasonic I had my eye on...
