4 out of 5 stars Could be brighter - needs less bass. But not bad.   July 4, 2008

I read lots of reviews before buying this product. I told myself I would live with it for a while before writing a review. I suspect people who write reviews the first day aren't getting to know the product very well. For instance, somebody said the sound got progressively lower in volume . . . dude, buy some Q-tips. Clean the earwax out of the earphones. . . . Seriously, though, its not a big problem if you keep your ears clean.

Lots of people seem not to know exactly how to wear them. If you've used earplugs, then you've got the idea. Some complain about hearing the cord, hearing yourself chew or breathe, etc. Again, its just like earplugs. Get over it.

Now, to sound quality. I listen to everything from dance, 80's synth pop, metal, classical (7th symphony, 2nd movement absolutely rocks), funk, etc. Everything except rap and country. These are definitely much, much better than the stock earbuds that came with my nano. I've also used higher-end cans, and the SE210s compare favorably. Sound isolation is pretty good, better than ANR. My biggest gripe is that there's too much bass. That's right - too much. I find myself using the EQ to get a brighter sound. The clarity is still there, but you have to tone down the lower freqs to find it.

I suspect that Shure geared the sound characteristics toward lower-end consumers, maybe pandering to those who buy $10 Sony's (and like them), or those who don't want to insert the earbuds far enough. People, if you want thump with earbuds, put a powered sub in your backpack.

I still gave 'em 4 stars, though, because - for the price - they're a great step up from the stock earbuds, and EQ'ing when going from one source to another - or from earbuds to speakers - isn't too much of an inconvenience.

Bottom line - not bad for the money. I don't dislike them enough to send them back. But, after I wear them out 2 years from now, I'll probably go for something brighter.

I both the headphone from a local retailer on my way to the airport (long international flight and realized I'd left my usual headphones at home). They basically live up to manufacture claims -- they do a good job of blocking out external noise, and the sound quality is good but not exceptionally so.

Where I've found the most benefit is in the office. The Shure 210 headphones (think regular headphones with earplugs around them) dampen non-repetitive noise such as voices much better than more expensive noise canceling headphones.

However, I'm not satisfied with the manufacturing quality. The sound volume for the pair I purchased seemed to drop over several weeks. At first, I thought it was just my imagination, but recently the volume dropped to almost a whisper. After some brief testing (alternate audio devices and headphones), it became clear the problem was with the Shure headphones.

So, reasonable sound quality, good sound isolation, but pricey and did not last very long.

This product is great! The sound quality is awesome. I ride my motorcycle with the earbuds in and all I can hear is music and a little wind. So be careful when you use them, could be a little dangerous. But, a great product. Would recommend to anyone who is serious about quality!

5 out of 5 stars the sound of perfection   May 12, 2008
I wasn't sure if it was worth spending this much got earphones. I do have to say, these are well worth every cent that I spent. These come with plenty of extras in the price. It comes with a carrying case that is soft but sturdy. The earphones cable is short but they come with a 3 foot extension cable, this adds weight to it though. There is also a pouch of extra earphone caps.

The sound is great, far better than the earphones that came with my MP3 player. It takes a little to get used to but once you pinch the end of the earphones and put them in the correct place, they actually muffle out noise. It sounds like you are wearing headphones that cover over the ears. They also give a nice level of bass to the music too.

One very important thing to note. With my old earhpones, I had to place the volume level 3/4 up to 4/4 to hear them good because of all the background noise. With these, I normally leave the volume level at 1/4 and at times up to 1/2 up. Any higher and the music gets too loud. This will save my hearing in the long run while enjoying the music.

I use these when I excercise, I run. They normally hold in place pretty well if I get them in correct the first place. If they do fall out, it's pretty easy to get them back in. the only hold up is if I begin to sweat. It makes it harder to get them back in. You will notice the different in the music quality once in correct and begin to slip out.

again, I highly recommend these earphones for those who are looking for great sound, great quality, and want to save their hearning.

My family and I bought this for my dad. He loves them. He can mow the lawn no problem with these, and says the sound quality is excellent.
