2 out of 5 stars Uncomfortable but sound okay   December 8, 2006

Everyone knocks these, but I think they sound pretty good for the price. You just can't get really good earbuds in this range. Yes, there's not much bass, but they are bright and clear compared to the competition. Unfortunately, they hurt to wear. When I do find an almost comfortable fit, they fall out. Completely useless for exercise and not good for long listening. Somebody should make covers for these -- like the ear jams (which do not fit the new earbuds).

Update: After time, these get more comfortable -- or perhaps I figured out a better way to wear them. Those who say the sound is bad have not tested similarly priced buds. None are great in this price-range, but these are more than adequate for most listeners and better than most. True, bass is limited, but that's mostly the type of bud. You'll get better bass with a plug that fits into your ear canal -- although not from one this price.

1 out of 5 stars These headphones are definately a waste of money.   December 12, 2006

These headphones are uncomfortable and constantly fall out. Compare them against Sonys and Sennheisers and you'll wonder why you ever considered buying these. Go now - if you spend anymore time thinking about this you'll run the risk of impulse buying these over-priced, under-performing, uncomfortable headphones that will likely break in 12-18 months. Every single person I know who owns these headphones, myself included, have reported loss of sound in one or both of the ear buds after 8-10 months of light to normal use. I consider these headphones an embarrassment, not only to modern manufacturing, but to all that humanity has ever achieved.

2 out of 5 stars These newly designed earphones stink.   October 8, 2006

Form must always follow function; however, these new earphones by Apple really missed the mark. Yes, they look better than the old and yes they fit a little better because of the smaller size but they have no low end response.

It's mechanical science 101, a smaller volume of space cannot produce the same low frequencies as the larger space. Thus, larger size and magnets of the old is > than the new ones with the smaller size and smaller magnets.

Case in point, these earphones sound tinny. They don't nearly sound as "full" as the old models they replaced. That's why I'm going around and buying as many of the old models as I can. The old earphones weren't sold separately so I had to buy it with for example, the FM radio. But It's worth it to me since the old earphones seem to be "tuned" better to the ipods and nanos.

Steve Jobs and the design team really droped the ball on this one. The new earphones look good but they don't sound good. I would have given it just one stars if not for the sleeker design.

1 out of 5 stars Forget these   February 26, 2007

Started using my brand new 80GB iPod in January and have had TWO original iPod ear phones break on me (one bud would just stop working). Apprently very poorly made. I treat my iPod and the phones extremely well so why the phones could just break is bizarre to me. Wonder if Apple is trying to get us to buy endless replacements of their distinct-white ear buds to make up for lowering the cost of their 80GB?

2 out of 5 stars Are They Really Worth It?   November 14, 2006

The Apple iPod In-Ear Headphones is a little bit more expenisve than the regular iPod headphones, so you may think that the sound quality is better...but that's not the truth. I was excited to try out these new gadgets after I bought them...but they are not user-friendly...
The headphones kit includes 3 sets of earpieces (small, medium, large)...it took me almost an hour to figure out which combination was best for me (even though the best wasn't perfect)...the left side kept on falling off while the right side stayed in perfectly when they are in my ears, so I always have to adjust them from time to time...
that is just one of the issues...
the sound quality is bad (you have to get used to the "improved sound")...all my songs sounded like FM radio quality when I listen to them with these headphones...
as the previous reviewer stated, if it wasn't for the sleek design, these headphones would've gotten a 1!
Apple should do something to fix these in-ear headphones...
so for now...stick with the regular iPod headphones!
