5 out of 5 stars A great headphone for the price   April 19, 2006

First off, let me say I'm not deaf. Well, not yet anyway.

I am a big Ipod user and found the Ipod earphones really fragile and uncomfortable, but have decent sound. They also have their wires stripped, so I was looking for a cheap replacement because I do stuff when I'm using my Ipod. I bought some other cheap ones but the sound was awful. So, I bought these.

The sound is decent. For headphones under $10, you can't beat them. The gumy material is much more flexible and able to withstand abuse. The earphones fit me comfortably, but like all things, YMMV. I'm able to listen with the Ipod at less than 1/4 sound without straining and maybe at 1/3 to drown out other things. Really.

My point is that if you're looking for a decent replacement for your Ipod earphones without blowing a lot of money, look no further. However, if you are having trouble with earbuds fitting you or want to really drown out noise around you, go for the more expensive enclosure-type headsets. Really.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic headphones for the price   April 29, 2006

My ears are really sensitive, so there was no way I could use the ipod headphones. Then I bought some $30 earbuds that were really comfortable, but met their end in a rather sad way. I saw the price of these headphones and thought, "They look cool and their cheap, but probably don't work well." I was wrong. These headphones have better sound than ipod headphones, and were just as good sound-wise as the earbuds that were over $20 more. They are not the most comfortable to those of use with sensitive ears, but they're tolerable. If you are looking for headphones that fit your ears perfectly or obliterate all outside noise, buy something else. But otherwise, you can't go wrong with these headphones.

4 out of 5 stars Comfort & Quality !   July 18, 2006

First - to the person who complained that these are not 'gummy' like gummy bears, this is true, but they ARE covered in soft silicon rubber which makes them stay put better, much like the silicon nose pieces on glasses. Next - yes, they are loud, but for true music lovers (50+ like me) who aren't listening to the current hip-hop noise & trying to go deaf, they can be made quieter by turning your volume down on whatever you have them plugged in to. The sound quality immediately impressed me. For this price, you really can't get anything else even similar !! My immediate response was, "Wow !" I listen to quiet classical & similar quiet music in bed at night when I am reading. It is important to me to be able to hear ALL the notes - from treble frequencies to bass frequencies - clearly, but not loudly. These do that very well. I am very pleased !! (The colors are cute & will please the teens. I bought blue because they matched my CD player best, but white or black would have been fine.) Don't hesistate to give these a try !

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding product!   June 12, 2006

I was looking for some inexpensive earbuds that would stay in my ears to use while biking and working out. I came across these JVC Gumy's and saw they had good reviews. So I bought a pair since they were so cheap. I figured if they sucked it was only a loss of $9.

Wow was I surprised! The sound is excellent regardless of price. They blow away the earbuds that come with IPOD's. They sound as good or better than earbuds that cost over 5 times more!

Like other people have noted, the sound is much louder with these when on the exact same volume level as other earbuds I own. Somehow they must be much more efficient which will pay dividends with battery life.

When I use these I forget they are even on. Usually when I have earbuds on they get uncomfortable, not these. I find them so comfortable that I don't notice them at all. They also stay put while exercising. Of course, everyones ears are different and you might not luck out like I did on fit.

What I really like about using these earbuds for biking is I can still hear external sounds. Some earbuds block all environmental noise to the point that they're dangerous to wear since you can't hear approaching cars/trucks and honks. I think they allow sounds to enter because of the little port on the earbud. The little port allows exterior sounds to enter and some of what you're listening to leak out. If you're blasting your eardrums with 110dB music, others near you will faintly hear the music as you destroy your eardrums.

One drawback to the port on a bike is when you're decscending fast or it's a really windy day, the wind catches the port and magnifies the wind noise. But for 90% of riding it's great.

I highly recommend these earbuds! They are so cheap, what do you have to lose?

I bought two of these, thinking one for each ear. Nah...just kidding. I bought one for me and one for my wife. We're old folks--over 100 years old. Well, collectively, we're over a hundred. And that means the cartilage in our ears has begun to change shape and gets sensitive to foreign matter making a home inside our outer ear canals. I bought these because my wife was complaining about discomfort with a whole variety of buds. She says these seem to be the softest and most malleable for the price. Now, they're not malleable like form-fitting spongy earplugs, mind you, but they are a bit softer than the average and give way at least a little bit to the form of the ear. I haven't tried mine yet, but if her sensitive ears like it, I'm sure I will, too. I'll let you know if they don't make the cut. So far, excellent results for the price.
