Amazon.com Product Description
These super-light, ear-bud headphones are water-resistant. They are the perfect headphone for those who relish outdoor, inclement weather exercise. They are also a top choice for those who enjoy lightweight, quality headphones. The silent cap confines the music to the listener's ear and away from those in the immediate area, a plus for those using the headphones in the coffee shop or library. The earphones are also open-air, meaning they allow ambient noises to enter the ear; this translates to a safer headphones, as the listener will be aware of horns, whistles and shouts.

The MDR-E827G's deliver a quality sound, even with their small size. The headphones use 13.5 millimeter drive units for a deep bass and clear treble. Sony also uses neodymium magnets which provide more energy per ounce than other conventional magnets. To improve bass sound, Sony utilizes both their Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit and a directional bass cap. The Acoustic Twin Turbo circuit achieves a high sonic output by utilizing sound chamber and duct technology. The cord is one meter long (3.3 feet) for ample range of movement.

5 out of 5 stars The search is over!   June 1, 2000

I use headphones on airplanes, in the gym, and--alas--I often sleep with them. Have tried many products, but none as happily as these. They were clearly designed by someone who was aware of the direction of the human ear canal, are comfortable, low profile, and have great sound. They also come in a wonderfully useful little storage case to keep you from losing the bud covers in pocket or briefcase.

One of the biggest problems I have found with the earbud headphones is that they always seem to fall out of my ears as I run. It seems that nothing I do help aleviate this problem. Another problem I've had not only with the earbud, but other sports headphones as well is sweat clogging up the speakers. I think I spend way too much time trying to keep my ears free of sweat as not too clog them up. I wish someone had a better idea for the perfect sports headphone. I'd love to hear anything.

5 out of 5 stars They really are the best   October 2, 2003

I always use ear-bud headphones when walking, for some reason the over-the-ear headphones give me headaches. So I've always also just assumed that I'd never have clear sound. No more! These headphones are wonderful.

The range of music I like is very much varied. These sound great for all types, and most surprisingly is their ability to handle resonant bass in some newer songs. I'm really amazed, actually. It's weird having sound that's as good as a nice stereo when you're walking the dog.

One setback is that I need to use the foam covers because the plastic buds along fall out of my ears at the slightest tug of the cable. It's a setback for me. Maybe my ears are getting bigger as I get older? This has never been an issue. Regardless, it's a tiny fault for the best, cheapest headphones I've ever bought.

4 out of 5 stars Use the Sponge Thingys   May 18, 2004

Update: Durability is not as expected. After a few months of moderate daily use (MP3 player in my shirt pocket) during my commute to and from work the connection between the wires and the stereo plug is beginning to fail. Regular body movements will cause a break in the connection and I don't expect these ear-buds to last to the end of the year. Too bad since they produce nice sound.

----------------------------------------------------

Had these for a few months before opening the package and trying them on. First tried to use the buds as they were packed - without the little spongy covers over the buds - and was totally disappointed with a loose fit, weak midrange, scratchy treble, and almost no bass whatsoever.

Finally got the brilliant idea of putting the covers on and giving them one last try ... Wha?!?! Were these the same phones? The buds fit much better in my ears and I had a totally different experience with great mids, good treble, and very decent bass.

These earbuds won't change your life but they'll make your MUNI commute more pleasant by allowing you to block out the miscellaneous grunts and chirps made by your fellow transit commuters.

Just remember to use the sponge thingys.

tired of reviews cranked out by the marketing department of the company in question? well here is an actual review by an impartial CONSUMER:
honestly, there are a lot better headphones on the market, but if you want to exercise in them... good luck. i've gone through two other sets of headphones before using these, the previous pairs died under the deluge of sweat proffered by my overheating body, but these sony's, they are still alive; for now. anyways, sound quality = so-so, but you're excercising so deal.
