Product Description
VHF / Wireless mic system

Amazon.com Product Description
Whether you're producing videos, leading aerobics, or putting on dramatic works, you'll find usefulness and versatility in Audio-Technica's 2-mic multi-purpose ATR288W wireless microphone system. At the heart of the system are its microphones, AT's ATR35s miniature lavalier condenser microphone and the ATR20 dynamic handheld microphone.

Either mic may be plugged into the supplied transmitter and fed wirelessly (using FM, or frequency modulation) to the receiver and on to your mixing console, tape recorder, hard disk, or other device. Use the system with camcorders, karaoke setup, DJ systems, houses of worship, schools, meetings, or presentations.

The ATR35s (frequency response: 50 to 18,000 Hz) provides "hands-free" use and comes with a lapel clip and a tiny, custom-fit windscreen. The ATR20, meanwhile (frequency response: 80 to 12,000 Hz), is perfect for uses such as singing, talking, and other situations requiring mobility and durability.

The compact, ultra-lightweight transmitter and receiver are each powered by a single 9V battery (not included), on which they last for about 8 hours. The system's normal operating range is 100 feet, though you may get transmissions of up to 300 feet under optimum conditions.

Two user-switchable transmission frequencies and a durable, rubber-coated, flexible receiver antenna assist you in securing interference-free operation. The system comes with a monaural earphone for real-time monitoring, as well as a transmitter belt-clip and a reliable camera-mount adapter for easy positioning and use.

What's in the Box
The system includes 2 microphones, 1 mic rest, two .25-inch adapter plugs, 1 condenser-mic battery, 1 condenser-mic tie clip, 1 condenser-mic windscreen, 1 receiver, 1 transmitter, 1 monaural earphone, 1 transmitter belt-clip, 1 camera-mount microphone adapter, a user's manual, and warranty information.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional Quality   October 3, 2007

Let me first say, I only give reviews for products that, in my opinion, are of exceptional quality. That being said, after receiving my Audio-Technica ATR288W Wireless Microphone System and putting it through various tests, I found the sound quality to be excellent. I have a Canon HV20 camcorder that has an extremely quiet motor. But, when making recordings (using the camcorder's built-in microphone) that had either low or no background sounds, I could hear the camcorder's motor when I played them back. The solution was to use an external microphone. When I connected the Audio-Technica ATR288W Wireless microphone system to my camcorder and made a recording with no background noise and played it back I was impressed. I did not detect any unwanted sounds, not even hissing sounds. All I heard was clean high fidelity sound!

2 out of 5 stars Overpriced for what you get   April 28, 2008

There are a few problems that I've encountered with this unit.

First off, the handheld mic is useless. If you hold it in your hand, it picks up all the noise from holding it in your hand. Give it a little squeeze, and the mic picks it up, or even slide it around in your hand, it gets picked up. The windscreen on the clip-on mic comes off very easily.

As far as the transmitter/receiver, the transmitter has no dedicated antenna, it uses the mic cord as an antenna. It can be staticy at times, even in close proximity. If you're monitoring the audio with headphones, make sure that you don't turn off the transmitter while you have the headphones on, otherwise you will hear VERY LOUD static.

This is also an outdated produt. The product box shows a VHS camcorder, and the manuals were printed in 1997, so I guess it's been in the box for about 11 years.

If you need a cheap wireless lavalier, this can get you started, however, I think it's worth more like $35. If you have the money, spend it on a Sennheiser setup instead.

4 out of 5 stars a great mic for a great price.   February 9, 2008

I've used this mic for a pilates classes for a film, and it has worked great. no real issues, long battery life, and light weight for the instructor. And for the price of this wireless mic you really cant beat it.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent value   July 31, 2008
This wireless mic system is a good value for the price. Sound quality is good over the range I've been using it, around 30-40 feet. My only complaint is that both the transmitter lacks a "mute" switch and the receiver "chirps" when the transmitter is powered off, so although this would not be much of an issue when used with a video camera, it's not ideal (but still acceptable) as an inexpensive wireless solution for use with a P.A.
