| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description New black foam sleeves are tapered, washable, and offer extended durability allowing for longer wear. Gently compress the foam to create a comfortable fit and snug acoustic seal that holds the earphones firmly in place while blocking out ambient noise.
Amazon.com Product Description These replacement sleeves are for use with Shure SE Sound Isolating earphones--specifically models SE210, SE310, SE420, SE530, and SE530PTH. Shure new Black (Olive) Foam Sleeves March 21, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been using in ear headphones for several years now. My current pair is a set of Shure E500s (same as SE530PTH). Included with the E500 are the old Shure yellow foam tips, and the silicone/plastic tips. I've also purchased E-A-R comply tips to use. I'm not sure if my ear canal is strangely shaped but none of the included permanent tips would fit well. For reference, I use the small size.
Fit: The E-A-R Comply tips were a bit too big for my ear. Since they were also not designed for the Shure headphones, the fit onto the headphone itself was somewhat snug. The included Shure yellow foam tips were also a little too large. Shures decision to go with sized foam tips was a great one as the new blacks fit my ear with the least amount of irritation. Foam tips are by far more comfortable than the plastic and silicone sleeves.
Sound/isolation: Foams are able to isolate more sound and they provide a more complete seal. With that comes better bass and more satisfying music. In this regard, the 3 foam tips all sound pretty similar.
Longevity: The included yellow foam tips had the least amount of longevity. They got dirty fast and when washed, would degrade quickly. The Comply tips and the new Shure black ones performed the same.
Value: A bit overpriced in my opinion.
Conclusion: The only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 is because I think they're overpriced. However, these are now the best choice as far as fit and sound goes for Shure IEMs.
