Good Sound and Fit June 23, 2007 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
These were the first "quality" earphones I had ever purchased. I bought them with my first Ipod. Great sound and an amazing fit for my needs. With the "noise cancelling" feature turned OFF, I can listen to music at relatively low levels and not hear much outside noise at all. For example, the noise from my home treadmill and two fans is pretty loud. I can barely hear anything beyond the music with the Sony headphones - a huge improvement over the Ipod factory earphones or the Bose I will discuss below. However, switch on the "noise cancelling" device and there is not much more than a 5% change at best and a small hissing noise you can hear mostly between songs.
I was disappointed in paying the extra money for the "noise cancelling" feature and took the Sony's back for the Bose in ear headphones (also same price I paid at about $99) which have a great sound, but I can only drown outside noise by cranking the volume. I'm returning the Bose for these Sonys (again), which by design, are noise cancelling despite the fact I'll likely not need to turn ON the feature.
I also think it has a lot to do with the fit of the earphones in your particular ears - which means every brand may fit everyone differently. I tried all of the three-sized pads that came with the Bose and none of them fit into your ear like the Sonys. I think a lot of that has to deal with the design of the Sonys to go further into your ear and create a sort of cushioned ...well...ear plug! The Sony's are also much more comfortable overall.
Get one for your girlfriend and one for you! December 14, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Sony MDRNC22/PIN Noise Canceling Earbuds
After losing her brand new $300+ Bose noise canceling headphones on the plane, I got my girlfriend these Sony noise canelling earbuds. She was skeptical at first at how these little earbuds would be at noise canceling. Fortunately, she absolutely loved them and uses them when she flies. She was amazed that they are better at noise canceling than her missing overpriced Bose. She describes these headphones as "Amazing" and thanked me whole heartedly me for getting them for her.
Since these noise canceling earbuds got such a wonderful endorsement from my girlfriend, I have since bought myself two pairs of these exact earbuds - one for the gym and one to keep around so that when my girlfriend complains, I put them on. Yes, they are GREAT noise canceling earbuds.
Very surprised and would recommend September 22, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was dubious about how successful noise cancelling ear buds would be, got to say I'm converted.
I used them on a flight from US to UK. Excellent when listening to inflight entertainment, only complaint was from the wife who nudged me to say "you can't hear me can you"! Then even manged to sleep wearing them with music turned soft they kept out the background noise pretty well. Point to note; Make sure you select the correct size bud to fit your ear (they come with three sizes) as it does make a huge difference. Also make sure they are in firmly as this again makes a difference to how much noise is kept out. I did read a previous review saying about the hiss noise when noise cancelling is on. All I can say is 'read the instructions' this is what they do initially. Once listening to something you don't notice it. Would recommend. Wife now wants some.
Best noise cancelling headset October 1, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the best noise cancelling headset I ever had. I am a frequent business traveler, and this is a must have thing in my pocket. Once I put it on, I cannot hear the kids crying next to me. Brought one for my boyfriend, and he loved it so much that he threw his Boise one away. He now also can sleep on the plane. I have highly recommended this headset to all my friends and families (and brought them as gifts), and now they cannot travel without it.
excellent sound September 14, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The sound is excellent although too bulky to carry around with an ipod or mp3player on the go
