5 out of 5 stars Increadable sound , comfortable fit, and great looks.   July 18, 2003

O.K. my dad, who was in broadcasting over 20 years ago owned a pair of these, they broke finally, he called Koss, they said send them in, we have a Lifetime Guarantee on all our headphones. They told him they didn't have the exact model he owned since they were so old, but would send him the updated version.(Pro4AA Titanium) While he was a little skeptical of the quality, (I got the story about how they just don't make things like they used to.) and sad to have to send them in, he acted like a good friend died, we finally boxed them up and sent them off. (Cost us $7.00 at USPS) About a week later these arrived, no charge. He took them out of the box and was complaining about how they just weren't the same, then he put them on, and started listening to music, he has had a smile on his face ear to ear ever since, and told me how much lighter and more comfortable they were, he also mentioned that he hated to admit it but they also sounded beter. Needless to say while there was some sentimental value with the old pair he is very happy with the new pair and the improvements that have been made over the years. I also found out from the Koss web site that they invented headphones over 50 years ago, and it is thanks to them that all of our products today have a headphone jack on them. If you want a Headphone that you can pass along to your great grand kids get a pair of Koss Headphones.

5 out of 5 stars Great sound, Nice design, not completely perfect.   November 21, 2003

Just got these phones last night & I am loving them. I bought them from amazon along with Blink 182's new album on the 18th. I got both items on the 20th! Great service.
Anyway, back to the phones. I pulled them out of the box, adjusted and then put them on. They look great and feel very comfortable. I have a fairly large head, but not the biggest. I dont think these phones would fit anyone much larger than me, I put them out to their largest setting. One reviewer said they were too heavy. They are going to be heavier than normal walking headphones, these are designed for studio and field recording. If you are looking to wear these all day to listen to your walkman, dont bother! While they are very comfortable, after an hour and a half or so of wearing them, your ears will get a bit hot. The cups fit very stug and dont leave much room for your skin to breath.
As for quality, I love these phones. While listening to the new Blink album I could pick up on every little detail, even a few mistakes! They are great for bass as well. The middle of the song 'Obvious' has a great low hit from a bas guitar which sounded great on these phones.
Cant forget to mention that these things are sexy!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, quality for a fairly reasonable price.   March 26, 2004

Myself being new to the world of higher-end headphones (it seems full of crazy lingo and brand loyalty), I searched the net for several days for what were considered the best brands. I chose these Koss because I knew the name (and the lifetime warranty, and stories of no-hassle returns, are far more than Sony, Sennheiser, or the rest can boast in the same price range) and I wanted an isolating set of headphones to use for studying (while my roommate pounds out Jay-Z and OutKast on his stereo). The Sonys seemed a little gimmicky (90 day warranty?) and overpriced. I looked at some Bose phones, but they were far out of my price-range. The Sennheisers, according to some "purists", provide the best overall sound quality (although I couldn't imagine anything surpassing these by much), but they appeared too bland-looking and fragile for my tastes.

When I got these I loved them from the start. I never knew they made headphones that sound better than a quality stereo! The sound detail is excellent with audio CDs and MP3s, and the bass is strong but not overpowering. I haven't yet tried these out on DVDs, but I would imagine they would be awesome. As far as isolating goes, I don't know why you would need any type of noise-cancelling headphones (which sacrifice sound quality for technology), because with these babies on, all you hear is the music. My roommate has to throw something at me to get my attention when I have these on! For the newbies out there: these are not for use with a portable CD player or MP3 player; they fall far short of the amplifying power needed to push these phones. If you want something sensitive enough to use with a portable (look for something with impedence around 32 ohms as compared to 250 ohms for these) buy something from the Sennheiser line, as they are also lightweight. I use these mainly to listen to rock, rap, and R&B, with some classical here and there (when studying). These are ideal for the first three but the quality of the classical is not what I would imagine a "purist" would deem extraordinary.

The look and feel of these phones just exude confidence in the craftsmanship and the quality of parts. Simply put, these are some awesome looking headphones. The pads are comfortable but will stick to you in warmer weather. If you don't think you'll be able to handle two extra pounds on your head for an extended period, don't buy these. I only find slight discomfort in my neck after wearing these (and I wear them for 2-3 hours at a time). The 8-foot cord and 1/4" adapter provide ease of use while wheeling around a stereo or computer.

I would recommend these phones to anyone who wants some high-end headphones (from Koss, the people that basically created the headphone) for isolation or just overall excellent quality of sound, with a guarantee for the life of the product.

5 out of 5 stars BUT THEY SOUND SOOO GOOD!!!!   August 4, 2005
20 out of 25 found this review helpful

These headphones sound great. I listen mainly to DVD's and do some online gaming and I have to tell ya, the bass these things can pump out is quite remarkable. The high's are crisp and mid's sound so natural, they truly are amazing. But!! They are tight.. For the first couple of minutes there fine but after a while you start to feel like your head is in a vise! (but they sound sooo good) And did I say ENORMOUS!! These thing are huge!! It's like wearing two VW's on your head (But they sound soooo good) and let's talk about wet ears, that's right wet ears.. After a few minutes my ears get all wet and sweaty (but they sound soooo good). Let's talk about the weight, Lord these things are heavy! and I mean heavy!!! Like I said" two VW's on your head" (but they sound sooo good). These are definitely NOT headphones for sissy's! You have to be a REAL MAN to wear these things! So if your a REAL MAN looking for some headphones that SOUND GREAT!!! are ENORMOUS!!, WEIGH A TON!!, CRUSH YOUR HEAD!! and make your ears sweat THEN BUY UM!!!!! You will not regret it. And if after a while of wearing them if your head feels like it's gonna explode!! SUCK IT UP!!! ADAPT AND OVERCOME!! cause your a REAL MAN!!!!

3 out of 5 stars Great Isolation; Above Average (But Not Great) Sound   March 19, 2004

Out of the box, these headphones are heavy and hot, yet comfortable enough for an entire CD. Forget the unusually strong bass response (which can be corrected by reducing your receiver's/player's bass output) these heaphones should actually be considered for their superb isolation properties. Casual use suggests that these headphones isolate external sounds and noise almost as well as popular "in-the-ear" plug-type products.

Sound-wise, the bass response is excessive and muddies midrange vocals, while extreme highs are somewhat recessed. For a more balanced sound, consider cranking back your bass and advancing your treble. Detail, spatial presentation and soundstaging are simply average.

The bottom line: don't buy these headphones if you seek the "best sound". Look at competitive offerings from Senneheiser for that. These cans are most useful for situations where you want the utmost privacy and are willing to sacrifice long-term listening comfort for that privacy.

Recommended for airplanes, TV-oriented living rooms and when your in-laws are visiting.
