Product Description The innovative Fellowes P-57Cs with SafeSense Technology is ideal for use in the home or home office. Exclusive SafeSense Technology stops shredder immediately when hands are too close to the paper opening. Shreds up to 8 sheets per pass into 5/32 x 2-inch confetti particles as fast as 85 sheets per minute. Equipped with a 9-inch paper entry, the P-57Cs easily accepts letter or legal size documents, and features durable steel cutters that accept credit cards and staples. Pivoting head with handle allows quick, easy waste removal from the 5-gallon wastebasket. Auto start/stop function ensures quick, easy shredder operation. Very Good Purchase January 9, 2007 164 out of 169 found this review helpful
I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this shredder. The child-safe finger feature was most important to me, as was the durability. After the first few uses the plastic shield inside the shredder which ostensibly guides the shredded paper into the wastecan fell off, but the functioning of the shredder doesn't seem to be affected. Aside from this minor issue, the shredder seems solidly made and has been excellent--it rarely jams and when it does it's easy to clear with the reverse feature. Its recovery time is very reasonable when you're working it hard (take a break yourself, too!). It's not as noisy as my old shredder. It is somewhat messy to empty, however, since the shreds are small, but that's a good thing when you're looking to keep identity theft at bay. I was pleased with how quickly it arrived. I would definitely purchase this shredder again for moderate household use.
Great Bang for your buck February 27, 2007 103 out of 107 found this review helpful
I had 7 years of documents/financial statements at home and wanted to get rid of them. This little fellow did a fine job taking care of that.
A couple of points:
- The sensor was a bit annoying. A lot of the statements are folded and with the sensor on, the machine would stop a few times until I wiggled the doc. So I turned the sensor off.
- It would get hot after a few minutes of constant shredding. The first time I used it, I think I went on 10 minutes of constant shredding. It was running a bit slow, so I decided to put some oil. When I came back with the oil, it wouldn't turn on. I had to wait half an hour for it to cool down and decide to work again.
- I generally shred 2 or 3 pages together. It works perfectly. It has a hard time shredding more than that.
Overall, it's an excellent bang for your buck (if you're just shredding your personal statements). If you own a business and need to shred a lot of documents, I would recommend a more robust one.
Dimensions Incorrect June 22, 2007 46 out of 50 found this review helpful
I had a tight space to put this so the dimensions were important to me. Instead of 12 X 12 X 16 shown on the web page the actual dimensions are 10.5'' deep X 15'' wide X 16" high. The cord is rather short: about 4-5 feet and has a 3 prong plug which meant I had to find a new place to plug it in. The top doesn't fit easily into the basket so it will be less convenient to empty than my old shredder. It creates shreds about 1/8" wide by about 2" long which is much smaller that my old shredder. It's shreds fairly fast and seems sturdy; so I'm still happy to have purchased it.
Buy a Fellowes 1st January 23, 2007 37 out of 38 found this review helpful
For the $$ this is the best home use shredder. I tried store brand and they broke. This one is relatively quite and strong enough for all those credit card applications I get in the mail. Make sure you do not let the gum-backed "sample" credit cards go through though.
Exactly what I need - shuts off when cats paws touch!! August 15, 2007 27 out of 31 found this review helpful
I've had this for about a month now, and I use it daily. So far, everything has worked better than expected. There haven't been any issues with any part of the device, and the shredder does indeed handle 8 sheets without trouble.
I'm the kind of person that likes to leave things on. My computer stays on 24/7 because I don't want to be bothered with waiting for it to reboot. Same goes for the printer. I just don't want to stand up, lean over to the printer, and press the ON button. Undoubtedly, this is not energy conscious, and in every other aspect of my life I *am* energy conscious. Anyway...
So I like to leave my shredder on too. Even if I didn't, the chances of me forgetting to turn it off are very high. The first thing I did when I tested this unit was to *VERY CAREFULLY* brush the metal lip with the paw of one of my cats, and was extremely happy to see the orange light go on - which means that the unit has disabled.
I'd read one too many forwarded e-mails about cats being caught in shredders somehow to NOT have this in my house. I'm delighted to report that it works as advertised.
