top of the line product July 8, 2000 80 out of 85 found this review helpful
It may sound somewhat surprising, at first glance, that a short piece of cable between your TV and DVD player can make a noticeable difference in the picture quality, but once you compare a cheap cable with a good one, you'll see that there is a difference! My DVD player came with a very cheap-looking cable with three RCA connectors on each side, and I used this cable to hook up the DVD player to the component (RGB) input of my TV before doing anything else. I dismissed this cable immediately as the picture was much noisier than I expected. A $15 S-Video cable performed better. However, I had to adjust the settings in video equalizer of my DVD player to increase color saturation, and also had to decrease sharpness of the picture to make noise unnoticeable. Finally, I bought the Monster cable (don't tell my wife about it!). This cable resulted in a perfectly sharp and clean picture without any adjustments in the CD player. Due to double-shielding of this cable, there was no sign of the noise that I saw with the S-Video cable either.I do not know if there is a noticeable difference between this cable and a less sophisticated one that may cost half of its price. I guess, everything depends on the kind of TV and DVD player you are using. But I can say for sure that my experience convinced me that there is a tremendous difference between this high-end cable and those from the very low end. The last thing: I do not think that it makes any sense to use such an expensive cable for a connection other than component video (Y + two color difference channels), also called "color stream" by Toshiba. If you do not have a component video input, use either S-video, or composite video (Video+2 audio connector). In the latter case (or if you need a cable to connect your VCR) a cheaper cable would do. This one is worth the money only if you do not want to settle for anything less than perfect.
Welcome to the world of COMPONENT VIDEO!!!!!!! October 10, 2001 33 out of 37 found this review helpful
ATTENTION: It is important to understand you must have a COMPONENT VIDEO ready TV and DVD player for this amazing Monster Cable to work. The MV3CV-2M Monster Video 3 High-Resolution Component Video Cable 2 Meters in length is the BEST off the shelf product available. This gas filled double sheilded cable with duraflex jacket eliminates those ghost and brings the sharpest, most colorful and brightest picture possible to your screen A great value and a much needed cable for your COMPONENT VIDEO Home Theatre System. Why COMPONENT VIDEO??? In a nutshell: 1). COMPONENT VIDEO is a three wire cable. (Y) - Luminance (Brightness), (Pb) Crominance (Color - Blue) and (Pr) Crominance (Color - Red). 2.) Provides a Cable with Digital (PROGRESSIVE SCAN) and Analog (INTERLACED) capability.By separating you Blue and Red Colors this provides a pure signal to the TV where it is combined through comb filters for the sharpest picture presentation. Results, the best picture available!!!! Monster Cables are the best value and provide outstanding results!! NOTE: The next level of video Excellence is moving to PROGRESSIVE SCAN see my SD-6200 review.
is it necessary? May 1, 2001 32 out of 34 found this review helpful
Before you shell out big bucks for these, ask yourself if it is really necessary. Because I am a sucker for perfection, I went out and purchased them. Did I see a HUGE improvement in picture quality compared to another brand of component video cable I was using? No. At least not on my 27" SONY WEGA tv. Okay, maybe the black levels are a bit better. I got these because I do believe better cables last a lot longer than cheaper-made ones. In addition, because I have so MANY cables running from my reciever, I figured cables with better jackets and good sheilding should cut back on video interference, producing better quality pictures.
Great Quality just Way Overpriced!! June 14, 2002 30 out of 33 found this review helpful
These and all other brand cables from MC are all overpriced including these. I have a 20" JVC I'Art television and I have my DVD connected through component. I have used Monster Cable component cables and they put out pretty much the exact same picture as my newer PHILIPS brand component cables that I only had to pay about [$$$] or so for. The PHILIPS are also shielded and gold plated and all that good stuff. So buy these MC component cables if you dont care about price, but otherwise buy PHILIPS brand that are way cheaper and put out the same quality picture.
Whoa!!! Apples and Oranges January 12, 2005 16 out of 24 found this review helpful
Several reviews mention the improvement when these cables to replace a composite (L/R audio + video) cable, or an S-video (multi-pinned plug). ALmost all of that improvement is due to the fact that these cable connection methods are completely different types in signal format and the TV uses different internal circuitry for each one. Virtually any S-video cable connection will give a better image than a composite type cable, and any component (individual R-G-B video) connection will be better than S-video. Cable brand has absolutely nothing to do with it. There may be some difference between one brand of component cable and another, but its almost always unnoticable.
