The floorstanding WS-100 is the flagship model of the WS Series, in a dynamic high performance configuration featuring a total of 9 drivers. The 1" Teteron tweeter reproduces the highs, while three 3.5" woofers handle all bass duties with distortion-free ease. A total of five 3.5" passive radiators are utilized to extend bass response down to below 50Hz. The WS-100 features an attractive polycarbonate base for enhanced cosmetics as well as additional stability for its extruded aluminum cabinet.

I got these to replace older Onkyo stock speakers. Following the vein of an earlier review, these are not as loud or punchy. I definitely lost base going from a much larger speaker to these. My Sub is more than able to make up the difference. So I turned my system up a little and turned the surrounds down, no big deal. But- I also got a much cleaner sound. I can play Iron Man at much higher levels and still retain clarity in the sound. We also picked up the ws-60 center and man does it sound great. I would never go back to stock speakers. The upgrade was more than worth it. They also look fantastic and the wife is really pleased with how they blend in with the TV setup so well.
 Good stuff, but make sure you have a subwoofer. June 4, 2007

Most people I know who would buy this set of speakers are much like myself - they want a good sounding low-profile system. Mine is a home theater arrangement, which is a great environment for them if you are limited on space.
If you are purchasing these speakers for their sound then budget for a subwoofer to go with them. I love these speakers but without a subwoofer I wouldn't be near as happy with them as I was with the 30 pound beasts I had before. Their mids and highs are great, the bass needs to be supplemented in my opinion

got them online without seeing them.
they are actually nicer then i expected.
they are very loud, and accurate enough for me.
the aluminum box does vibrate when you crank it up(small price to pay)
all in all for a small space they are a great option.
my system has ws-15 rear, THX sub, pioneer center.

Have used two Athena WS-100 speakers for left and right front speakers in surround setup for about three months. They are clear and powerful for movies and music. When combined with a good sub-woofer they sound like a movie theater.

These are really excellent speakers for the price. I would consider myself an audiophile, having grown up with a father who is heavily into sound systems, and believe me, these are very impressive speakers. I was unsure about purchasing them at first; I had read good reviews, but was leaning towards a pair of B&O floorstanding speakers. I'm glad I went with these. They sound every bit as good as the more expensive B&O units, have very sexy styling (which was an absolute MUST for my hyper-minimal NYC loft), and can handle a good amount of power.
While they are less expensive than B&O speakers, they are not self powered, so you will have to purchase an amplifier or receiver. My pair is matched to a 1960's-vintage Crown D150, which provides great volume and a good dynamic range. Most people won't have access to one of those, but I have read very good reviews where several different receivers were tested. I am always surprised with the bass that these units can produce; mind you, they are not absolutely booming at the low end, but they really do sound perfectly respectable without a subwoofer. Quite a feat when you consider how narrow they are, and the fact that most speakers in this category absolutely must have a sub to even sound passable.
The construction is rock-solid, and looks fantastic. You can tell that you're dealing with a quality product with one look. If I had to make a complaint, its that the base of the speaker is a clear plexiglass circle, which in my opinion cheapens the look. Athena says that the material was chosen for its sound dampening qualities, but they could have gone with a more noble material like steel or even a nice black chunk of rubber. This is easily overlooked, though.
If you're considering speakers in this price range or a bit higher, and looks are as important as sound, you really can't go wrong at all.
