I recently purchased this 8 gb Zen X-Fi for my grandson after having purchased a 16 gb for myself and being so pleased with it!
You can easily use the drag and drop method to add music and or audio books to the player or use transfer to get movies from Amazon Unbox or Zencasts onto the player. I have also easily used drag and drop to get personal videos that I have converted to the right size using Sound Taxi onto the player.
The external speaker is a nice addition and the player would be perfect with integrated SD card but I guess we can't have everything!
After having waited 16 days for my own 16 gb player to arrive having chosen Amazon's "Free Shipping" option (which has become a joke!) I went with one of Amazon's "Partners" for this order of the 8 gb version. I paid the same price Amazon was asking but I had the player arrive promptly in 5 days instead of seeing my order "in transit" for days and days on end!!
After more than 10 years as a faithful Amazon customer I am now going with their "Partners" any time I can after having also bought a Creative Vado pocket camera from Amazon this month and paying the $5.98 shipping for the promised 3 to 5 day shipping delivery time only to have it take 9 full days to arrive, even after paying shipping!
So I recommend the Creative products highly but not Amazon as your supplier unless you have given up and been forced into paying for Amazon Prime just to get good shipping service from them! All the Partners I've used have given excellent 3 to 5 day shipping service just being happy to have you as a customer!!

Got this for a parent who wants an external speaker mp3 player and it seemed like the best one on the market.
Pros:
1. Video looks excellent. Clear, crisp video.
2. External speaker: as of right now this is the best product (aside from my Iphone) with this function. Volume is loud enough and sound quality is good.
3. SD card slot. ipods need this.
4. Very nice earbud headphones.
5. FM radio. I wish my ipod had this.
Cons:
1. Video needs to be converted to a Creative Zen format for use. Regular Mpeg4, avi, etc. do NOT work in this player. The description was a bit misleading to me. You should download the standalone converter from Creative.com which works better than the one included in the package.
2. Software: itunes is so far superior to this. Interface is slow and not always intuitive.
3. Included mini USB cable is the shortest one I have ever seen.
I own a lot of ipods and an iphone and this product is really not as good as far as ease of use, feature set, and software.
If regular ipods came with external speakers, I would not have bought this.
That said, this does play music and video well once you are able to get them onto the player. The music and video sound and look great.
Good audio book reader December 28, 2008
I bought this device a few weeks ago for the main purpose of listening to audio books I download from the library. It does this job very well. I can store several books on the device and have one or more bookmarks for each book.
I would have given it five stars except for one thing. The thing is so small, it easily fits in your shirt pocket, but being so small there is little room for the control buttons. The buttons are so small and I have large hands and fingers, that I often hit the wrong button and have to go back to get where I wanted to go.
It's also a good mp3 player and I have stored most of my music on it too. The sound quality is excellent with my Bose headphones. The included ear buds are good but I prefer real headphones with noise cancelling like my Bose.
good MP3 player, SD card access cumbersome January 7, 2009
All in all a good mp3 player. Don't plan on increasing storage through the SD card, it's on a seperate menu from music and not accessible from the music menu which makes it way to cumbersome. when unit is viewed in windows explorer SD card is not shown. SD is accessed by the creative software only unless you take it out and plug it into a laptop or PC. Will not play music or anything when connected to a usb port for charging. interface is cumbersome and included software needs alot more developement, no where near as intutive as ipod or itunes, but it does use DRM free music.
