Yamaha's YSP-1100 Digital Sound Projector provides true multi-channel surround sound from a single component. As amazing as it seems, the YSP-1100 can actually deliver multi-channel sound that surrounds listeners the same way that sound from front, center and rear speakers does. DVD movies and other digital sources sound just the way they are supposed to. Dolby Pro Logic II is included, so even 2-channel TV sound can be heard in glorious multi-channel surround. Remember, this is true surround sound, not virtual surround, which can cause listening fatigue. This model features 40 built-in beam drivers and 2 built-in woofers, along with 42 corresponding digital amplifiers. The YSP-1100 precisely controls the orientation of sound by focusing it into beams. The center channel sound is heard directly, while the sounds from other channels are heard after reflecting off the walls surrounding the listener. SRS's TruBass technology uses harmonics to provide deep and rich bass response. The result is an excellent solution for video enthusiasts who wish to build their home theater systems around larger flat screen TVs and desire a neat, uncluttered, unobtrusive system to match the interior of their room. Five selectable sound settings allow users to choose between 5-Beam Mode, Stereo Mode, 3-Beam Mode, Stereo+3-Beam Mode and My Beam Mode. The YSP-1100 has a wider soundstage than its predecessors, affording more optimum listening positions within a room. My Beam mode allows users to focus sound to a specific position in their room at the touch of a button to avoid disturbing others. Yamaha's CINEMA DSP technology, which offers seven audio programs compatible with the Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS Neo:6 sound formats, creates realistic soundscapes in any room. For late night movie and music enjoyment, the YSP-1100 features a Night Listening Enhancer mode that allows dialog and quiet passages to be heard clearly, even at low volumes. The TV Equal Volume mode prevents sudden bursts of sound from TV programs and commercials. The YSP-1100 offers simple video input selection with a multi-language onscreen display. Truly Amazing Surround Sound June 21, 2008

I finally got around to remodeling the bedroom and did a little over and beyond the "honey do list". Since we were remodeling, my wife finally agreed to a TV in the bedroom but didn't want any wires, amps, speakers, ect. in the room to clutter up the new clean look. So I hung a flat panel with this Yamaha YSP-1100 under it. (I highly recommend the wall bracket for an application like this). The sub is hidden in an undisclosed location and yes I hid the wires. Step 1 completed.
Step 2 required me to make it work and make it easy. The auto-calibration feature was a snap. My bedroom is rectangular and the YSP-1100 sounds amazing! There's sound coming from all around the room but look honey, "no speakers". I programmed it's "My Beam" feature and so when one of us nod off, the other can still watch TV and not get the "can you turn it down" line.
Well it passed inspection from the Executive Director of the Interior aka the Mrs! Bottom line, it sounds amazing, looks cool and I highly recommend it. In fact, now my condo-livin' brother-in-law wants one and yep, it's been added to his "honey do list".

I bought a Yamaha Sound Projector and love it! I live in an apartment where drilling holes and running for speaker wires for surround sound was not an option. When I watch a movie I can hear the soundtrack coming from all directions. It really adds a lot to the movie. One thing I found out after I set it up was that you really need to buy some type of subwoofer to get the most out of this. I bought a small inexpensive subwoofer and it made a huge difference.

I have a Yamaha receiver bought around 5 years ago, loved it, that's why decided to stick with Yamaha. I have read reviws and specifications about this particular model and convinced it worth the money, I decided to buy it. After playing few ours with it, i am still impressed about how many things this unit knows how to do, and it does it great.

I purchased this unit about 1 month ago and I have been nothing but impressed by it. To get the full effect you will need to hook up a external subwoofer. The sound is exceptional and the fact that it is a all in one unit makes it even more appealing. It would be nice to have more than 2 sets of inputs though.
