Nice bookshelf speaker July 21, 2006 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
This is JBL's low end bookshelf speaker. I assumed this would be bigger with a 5 inch woofer, but it is a pretty small full sized speaker. Nice low range for the size, clear sound, easy to hide and perfect for a surround sound setup (I used if for the rear channels). Sound from it is clear with good tone. Overall definitely worth the price (even though I got it from a discount warehouse for less).

Nice and clean sound.
I bought these as side surround speakers...I didn't read carefully...there are no brackets to mount them. I nailed on picture frame hangers.
Low keyed nice looking speakers.

Great Small Speaker with Bigger Sound than Expected January 5, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
First, I should say that I am big fan of JBL speakers. I have a set of 135 surround speakers that I bought a few years ago and I still use the small surrounds as my rear surround speakers as well as the subwoofer.
Anyway, I bought these to replace an in-wall speaker that I have from Cambridge Soundworks. (We put a bookshelf in rendering my in-wall speaker useless). I am very impressed by the construction & sound of this speaker. It is solid feeling, very nicely designed and sounds great.
Yes and No December 5, 2007 3 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'm sure these are great speakers, after all, they're JBL.
Unfortunately nothing in Amazon's description indicates that they're not powered and will only work with a system that includes a receiver. I bought them to upgrade the depressingly poor quality of the speaker built into my new Sony Bravia HDTV but that won't work because there's no way to power the speakers. (I confirmed that with JBL's customer support.)
I'll probably keep them since I got such a good price and I have faith in JBL. I may use them someday or can give them as a gift.
If your plans for these speakers include a receiver do buy them. Otherwise keep looking.
Looks can be deceiving! December 7, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I actually didn't buy these speakers for a home theater system, but rather my home studio/computer workstation. Now my last pair of speakers were Event 20/20. For those who aren't familiar with those speakers, they are used by many professionals as near range speakers for mastering audio projects. At this point in time I wasn't able to afford $800-$1000 speakers just to use for my home computer setup. But I was worried I was spoiled by using professional monitors for the past six or seven years. The price of these JBL speakers almost seemed to good to be true, but I figured I could return them if I wasn't happy. Well, these little speakers took me by surprise! Crystal clear sound. Nice mids and highs, along with clean bass. I am currently going from my computer outputs to an Alesis RA300 amplifier, so that helps quite a bit. A great set of speakers for an excellent price!
