This woofer is not the best built i have ever seen, however I use it outside under the deck with some jbl out door speakers.. and this thing kicks... The cabinet is a big hollow sounding.. and the woofer seems like its paper.. but sound is what counts and im happy with it.

First I must say, if you are looking for a powered home sub-woofer that can perform at like say,..... concert like volume levels, then this is the sub for you. This sub rivals that of a high end concert sub-woofer, it sounds that good! After listening to higher priced subs in its class, this sub will easily blow most away. I grabed this sub off amazon.com over a year ago, and am very satisfied with its ongoing performance. The pros for this sub is that it has a rear double ported bass-reflex box design. It has a built-in fuse protection feature, an extra plus, and a very sturdy built fiber coated paper woofer and cast basket frame for handling high energy wattage to the speaker and voice coils. The built in amp is attached to the rear neatly and can be easily detacthed for maintenance to a Cerwin-Vega dealer if needed, as goes the same for the woofer. The Cerwin-Vega.com repair center located in south Florida is excellent at warranty coverage/repair for any component on this sub. The only cons I can see for this sub is that the woofer itself is rated to handle up to 400watts max, and the amp, up to 300 watts which should be more than enough for most. Being a rear ported box, it must be placed in a corner for maximum bass performance unlike a front ported box. I replaced the Sub-woofer Driver with a Dayton 15" Reference Series High Fidelity 800watts max Sub-woofer Driver, and man, this thing packs an extra punch. This new driver can handle more than the built-in amp/ surround receiver amp can kick out. I've found that after continous extreme loud play over long periods, the subs overheat protection feature will kick in shutting off sound to the sub, meaning when this happens, you have to wait for the sub amp to naturally cool down before it will return back on. To combat this problem, I installed a cooling fan for the rear amp by attaching a clip-on fan to my front surround speaker stand located behind this sub in the corner of my living room. This thing will boom for hours now without shutoff making my home sound like a continuos concert. People come from blocks away now to investigate, or join in the party! Just make sure you have a good surround receiver. I'm running a Yamaha 5 channelx 110watts surround receiver 5950.

Wow! That's some bump, great for music, great for movies and is so pretty. The amp could be more powerful but I really don't think it needs to be. It would just make the specs looks better if it had say a 600 watt amp but with the size of this sub and the enclosure the 400 watts it pumps out is plenty to beat out most any sub under a $1000 so for $400 it's a no brainer.
