15 April 10, 2007 I bought this sub from [...] even at that price it's worth it! many comparable car subs retail for many times that.
I built the box myself. Home Depot cut the 48"x48" 3/4" mdf for me - for $30. I used Dayton's recommended sealed box dimensions (2.3 cu-ft). The ported sub is 5.75 cu-ft, and will get you more bass extension. I prefer sound quality, and the 'small' box.
Using Dayton's 240 Wrms amp with bass boost (purchased for $99 at partsexpress), I rock my house with the amp set to half gain, and my receiver set to 25% sub output. The sub is very sensitive - it's not using more than 120 Wrms at full tilt.
I haven't tested output or frequency, but it's loud and low enough for movies, and tight enough for music (classic rock, classical, ska, techno). Dayton claims 120 dB with their 1000 W amp (the sub can only take 800 Wrms) and sealed box. with 240 W, I should be at around 114 dB - 'loud' is 105 dB. So you can see, realistically I'm not losing anything with the small amp.
This is a very impressive sub. period. it's also an amazing value. You'd be hard pressed to find a comparable powered sub for anywhere near $350. Advertisers trying to sell you higher powered systems are just trying to steal your hard earned dollars!
Bass you can feel!!! July 14, 2008 One word describes this woofer, AWSOME
When I got this woofer I tested it in an existing 15" home theater sub box. Even though the woofer did not sit properly in the test box(non air-tight fit) the sub easily out performed my existing Memphis audio 15" sub in dynamics, punchy-ness and bottom end repose. I have since built a 4.5ft^3 box for the sub, using a the bash 300 watt amp and the Precision Port 4" Flared Port Tube Kit. This thing is a monster!!! LFE hits on DVD's actually surprise me with both the punch magnitude and depth!!!
This is a truly well made product.... 5 Stars
