Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The LS 300 is designed to accurately reproduce high fidelity music in a variety of applications, including home theater. Not only are these speakers weather resistant and suitable for outdoor use, they also include color matched brackets for mounting in most any environment. The LS 300 speakers are manufactured to resist a variety of weather conditions. However, they are not waterproof, so if you decide to place your speakers outdoors, position them so they are not exposed to the elements. The under-sides of most eaves and overhangs provide the best protection for indoor/outdoor speakers. Like most speakers, the LS 300's sound best when placed about seven feet apart, ear level to the listener. If the speakers are more than seven feet apart, toe them in toward the center of the room. Be sure to place them at least two feet from a television or computer screen, as these speakers are not video shielded. The LS 300 are compact, two-way speakers with a stylish wedge design featuring 4-inch reinforced polypropylene woofer, .75-inch polycarbonate tweeter, 100-watt power capacity, 70 Hz20 kHz frequency response.

Amazon.com Product Description
These stylish, compact LS300 speakers from AudioSource give you a powerful sound, inside or outside. The weather-resistant speakers are perfect for outdoor use in protected areas, such as a partially covered deck or patio. The metal grilles and solid construction make the LS300 speakers durable and attractive. The small size of the LS300 speakers makes them a great indoor sound source as well. Place them on a bookshelf or mount them to a wall and connect them to your stereo or home theater.

Despite being small (8.5 x 6 x 6 inches, W x H x D), the LS300 speakers put out 100 watts per channel and feature a 4-inch reinforced polypropylene woofer and 3/4-inch polycarbonate tweeter. They're easy to hook up and can accommodate almost any kind of speaker wire connections. The speakers have gold-plated binding-post speaker terminals that ensure high-fidelity sound, and the terminals connect to banana-plug speaker cords or bare speaker wires, up to 14-gauge.

The LS300 speakers are also easy to put in place. They come complete with mounting brackets, nonslip adhesive pads, and all the basic hardware you need to get your speakers set up, outside and inside.

What's in the Box
2 speakers, color matched brackets, nonslip adhesive pads, installation materials, owner's manual.

3 out of 5 stars OK Sound   May 29, 2002

After reading the other reviews on these, I guess I was expecting them to sound really good. I would say that their sound is just OK, no better than that for sure. Absolutely no bass, and vocals sound very tinny and hollow. Then I remembered how much I paid for them, and I figured 'what can you expect'. So, don't be misled by the other reviews, the bottom line is that you get what you pay for, and these sound like [an inexpensive] pair of speakers. They represent a decent value in low end speakers, but nothing more.

5 out of 5 stars Priced Right, Good sound!   June 24, 2002

We placed our speakers 1' above our deck and 14' seperation. Couple that with monster cable-THESE SPEAKERS SOUND GREAT!!!
We are using a 50W/channel receiver. Well placed, these speakers have plenty of highs and the bass is audible (sub-woofer) would give enhancement). For our back-ground type music under the sun/stars this is an exceptional deal. Well worth the purchase!!

4 out of 5 stars Best for background Music   January 14, 2005

Pros: Lightweight, easy to install with brackets included, and a GOOD price-performance relation. Considering the limitations of the drivers and the housing etc, it is a good deal. The mid-range and high-range definition is pretty good.

Cons:
Just slightly overstepping that what the bass driver can handle, and it will sound really ugly. When we reach that point, the speaker is hardly handling 18W RMS power. In other words: The speaker is overrated being called 100W.

My conclusion:
These speakers are best for multi-room low-level ambient music. It has an emphasis on the 7-8 KHz range, saying that some sources like cymbals sound harsh. Nothing that cannot be fixed with an EQ. The mid range 300-6000 Hz is very well defined and balanced, given the size of the speaker.
As said: A good deal, but DON'T expect 100W from it.

5 out of 5 stars Just quality   July 19, 2003

I hooked these up to my Dennon flame thrower to an outside B channel.
The sound is as good as you'll get at any cost.
I'm still cautious about decibels though, I just figure there easy to blow. But did go happy boy a few times and they still sound great. I always push my speakers before the warranty's up.
