1 out of 5 stars Reputation Far Exceeds the Real Thing   June 6, 2008

These speakers worked well for about four months. Then I noticed distortion in the right satellite speaker. I contacted mfgr's customer service and they tried to troubleshoot the problem including replacing the power unit, replacing the speaker wires and returning the subwoofer AT MY EXPENSE! When the subwoofer was returned it worked no better than before I returned it. All this took about two months to get nowhere. Finally I requested a replacement since speakers were under warranty. That was about three weeks ago and I got no response. This all started around April 1 and 2 1/2 months later I'm still waiting for resolution. There are more reliable speakers on the market at lower prices. Shop around and buy either Altec Lansing or Logitech for less money. You will be a lot happier.

This speakers are good for movies, games and music. They produce full rich sound. They will fare with other expensive speakers. They have excellent dynamic range and plenty of power. I really like them. Cold Eyes

4 out of 5 stars Klipsch Promedia 2.1 Review   June 11, 2008

These speakers have amazing sound quality. The highs and mids are crystal clear. However, once you reach a certain volume level the bass does become distorted. I tried tinkering with the sub woofer wattage and adjusting bass levels, but nothing seemed to be able to fix the distortion. I am okay with this, because the volume at which the bass becomes distorted is fairly high and the highs and mids continue to aww me.
I think that the bass will satisfy most people, especially if these are your first high quality computer speakers. However, if you are looking for a system with extreme bass, I would go with logitech z-2300. I owned a pair of logitech z-5500's (z-2300's 5.1 twin system) which I sold and their bass was amazing. They shook neighbors foundations and out-blasted any other computer speaker I have ever heard. However, the highs and mids are nothing special on these speakers.

5 out of 5 stars Great 2.1 system   August 21, 2008

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system is simply amazing. I've coupled these with an Auzentech X-Fi Sound Card in my home computer, and I am now enjoying the best sound quality I've ever had from a computer. I use these in a relatively small office in my house, and at full volume, it is overwhelming.

These speakers produce some of the clearest, sharpest sound that I've heard from any speaker system, including expensive home theater stereos. They produce accurate, clear, rich highs and mid range sound along with strong bass if you want it.

There are two controls on the left speaker which serves as the control for the rest of the system. One controls volume and the other the bass level. I find this to be very useful to quickly switch bass levels from one song to the next.

Pros:

Powered Amp--this is a big deal if you want quality bass

Powerful 200 Watts of power

Highest quality sound from any 2.1 system I have ever heard including Bose and Harmon Kardon products.

Solid, food framed speakers and subwoofer. These speakers will out last any of the plastic stuff made by Logitech or others.

Headphone jack on control speaker

Great warranty

Cons:

More expensive than other 2.1 systems, but you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to speakers.

In sum, these speakers are awesome. I highly recommend them to anyone that wants high quality sound from a small package. My friends are always commenting on how great these speakers are, to the point that two of them have gone and purchased their own set!

1 out of 5 stars Not the best of speakers   August 19, 2008

Don't get me wrong, the mids and highs sound great. Probably the best of most 2.1 systems. However the subwoofer just plain sucks. Really! Shure the sub "throws" the bass around the room at low volume, but compared to how LOUD the satellites can get....it's an uneven match. The bass can't keep up and gets distorted VERY easily. You'll find yourself having to LOWER the subwoofer volume as you raise the speaker volume. Very annoying.

Oh and the amplifier they use in this gets VERY HOT!!! Shure you won't be feeling the heat since the subwoofer is usually in an out of the way place but...too much heat usually leads to failure. I bought these speakers as an experiment just to see what the hype was all about. You have been warned!

I'll be taking this speaker apart to see what the build quality is like as soon as I get my OTHER speaker system. So keep a look out for an update.
