Make sure your inputs match August 13, 2007 43 out of 45 found this review helpful
This receiver has a lot of inputs, but you may end up missing out or buying cables you didn't think you needed to buy.
Breakdown: Notes - *RCA Audio - "red/white" (decent quality) *Optical Audio - "opt" (about equal to Coax, better than RCA. this cord has small square inputs on both ends) *Coax Audio - "coax" (about equal to Optical, better than RCA. this cord is like the RCA, but it is usually "orange". you can use any rca cord to attach coax, though) *HDMI - "hdmi" (this cable combines audio video - best quality) *Composite Video - "yellow" (decent quality) *Component Video - "red/green/blue" (better than Composite) *HDMI - "hdmi" (this cable combines audio video - best quality)
Input - "in" Out to sepeker - "outs" Out to some other device - "out"
There is only one "out" for each type on input listed above.
Source 1 (front): -AUDIO [red/white - in/outs] -VIDEO [yellow in/out] Source 2 (back): -AUDIO [red/white - in/outs/out] -VIDEO [none] Source 3 (back): -AUDIO [red/white - in/outs] -VIDEO [none] Source 4 (back): -AUDIO [red/white - in/outs/out] -VIDEO1 [yellow in/out] -VIDEO2 [red/green/blue in/out] Source 5 (back): -AUDIO [opt - in/outs] -AUDIO2/VIDEO [hdmi - in/outs/out] Source 6 (back): -AUDIO1 [red/white - in/outs] -AUDIO2 [coax - in/outs] -VIDEO1 [yellow in/out] -VIDEO2 [red/green/blue in/out] -AUDIO3/VIDEO3 [hdmi - in/outs/out] Source 7 (back): -AUDIO1 [red/white - in/outs] -AUDIO2 [opt - in/outs] -VIDEO1 [yellow in/out] -VIDEO2 [red/green/blue in/out] -AUDIO3/VIDEO3 [hdmi - in/outs/out] Source 8 (back): -AUDIO/VIDEO??? [***digital media port - in/outs/out???]
*** a digital media port is a proprietary cable/dock made by sony for use with bluetooth devices, walkman digital audio players, and ipods.
You can use more than one type of input on a source. If it is audio though, you have to manually go up to the reciever and change it from one to another (ex:hdmi and opt... prepare to either walk up to the reciever if you have two things on that use both that are on at the same time, or shut one off.)
The reciever sounds great, has a universal remote, a microphone that auto-calibrates the speakers, and the ability to name the inputs whatever you want on the display. The price is great for a unit with 2 hdmi inputs.
I hope this helps.
Very pleased with this system. August 30, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have just recently receive this Sony surround system and I am very pleased. I doubted that surround sound would make much of a difference but now I'm a believer. This system offers a lot of bang for the buck. I could not find a better system at the price. I did a lot of research before purchasing this product and it was the best choice for my price range which was under $250. I strongly suggest this product, especially for a small to medium size room. Tons of connections on the back I actually have a Wii, DVD player, Satelite cable and a PS2 hooked up to it and still have room for more.
Great for the system for the money November 27, 2007 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
Have had the system for about 2 months and it is great. Although I have multiple HDMI products, I don't use the HDMI inputs on the receiver. They are just a video pass through, and only at 1080i. That's the main reason it didn't get 5 stars from me. Everything I have is 1080p, so I didn't want to degrade signals. I have an upconverting DVD player in the Digital Coax and my STB in the Optical input and both sound great. The Sub has plenty of bass, and the auto calibration worked very well. I have some strange acoustics in my room, and the system handles it better than expected. Music sounds good, movies, TV, sports, no complaints.
I am Enjoyin' it .... October 24, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am one of the lucky one who got this unit under $200 ... I have placed it in the living room ... and trust me I am enjoying every minute of it.
It has a Auto-AFD mode which automatically detects the signal and chooses the channels.
The auto calibration feature is also very cool other wise you'll try hundred positions of speakers before right spot.
And Yes the feature to rename the input names in display is very cool.
