Outstanding January 4, 2008 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Pros: Sound, Appearance, HDMI in/out Cons: None that I am aware of
This is a surprisingly good system. I was lucky enough to find the system for $450 at the local Best Buy (the price reduced because the box had been opened). Compared to other systems, I would say it's still quite a bargain retail, rivaling systems more than two or three times the price.
I was truly impressed with the system after setting it up. It gives very nice blending of high, mid and low frequencies for a crisp, yet rich sound. It's great for movies and I love just listening to music on it, not to mention that its appearance is clean and unobtrusive.
I have a separate DVD player, so do not mind that one is not integrated into the system. After peeking through the air vents it's not clear to me why Samsung made the unit so tall, the components would apparently fit in an enclosure half the height, but that's really my only complaint, if you can call it one.
I am extremely happy and recommend the system highly.
A pleasure to set up and great sound! August 6, 2008 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I purchased this product to connect to a Samsung hdtv and a Samsung upconverting dvd player. The remote controls all three (because they are all samsung) and when I put my first dvd in it turned on the tv and chose the correct reciever setting without even pushing a button. I was pretty impressed by this.
Even though this is the first surround sound system that I have owned, it only took me about 45 minutes to set up. It still needs some tweaking, and I still need to hide the rear speaker cords, but I am very pleased with it so far. Nice design, looks sleek and elegant and the sound is awesome. I was glad that this system uses standard speaker wire (not plugs) so you can easily purchase more wire and run it around the edges of the room.
The size was larger than I expected on both the reciever itself and the sub so people with small rooms may want to double check the size specifications.
I would recomend this reciever to anyone because of the simple setup and great sound right out of the box. It also has the capability to be adjusted to odd shaped rooms with uneven speaker distances. It can later be expanded to 7.1 surround (blu-ray) with the purchase of another set of speakers.
GOOD SOUND WHEN IT WORKS!!! January 4, 2008 12 out of 20 found this review helpful
I had this system for about a week before I returned it. Right from the start I had "Handshake" issues with my PS3. I had my PS3 on HDMI input 1 and my STB on HDMI input 2, with HDMI out to the TV. When I first turned on the PS3, I got a black screen that said "Mode not supported". After unplugging and plugging the PS3's HDMI cable in a bunch of times, it finally worked. The next day I turned on the PS3 and was suprised to see a magenta screen. Connected directly to the TV and the problem was gone. The next few days it worked fine and then the other morning I got the "Mode not supported" again. Nothing I did would bring the video back. I had the correct cables too, HDMI 1.3. Others have had many issues w/ this reciever when connecting a PS3 (check out AVSforum.com)
I have a new Samsung LCD TV w/ Anynet. Could not get this to work either. When I would turn everything off and on it would change my input to HDMI Optical...but I'm not running an optical cable.
When the unit was working, I was actually suprised with how good it sounded. This system may be ok if not using a PS3 W/ HDMI connection, but that's why I bought the system, to use the Blu-Ray...If you do want to try the system out, make sure you purchase it from a place that has a good return policy.!!!!

A quality system April 29, 2008 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I initially belileved that the subwoofer had stop working, but after further research on the web I discovered that if you change the settings of the front speakers from smalll to large, the subwoofer becomes inoperable. Meaning, the sub off or on option will not work, and the sub will not be used to distribute sound. I change the setting back to small and the system works awesome now. Unfortunately, when I contacted Smasung customer support, they had know recommendation to remedy this problem other than sending it in for repairs. My advice for anyone wanting to adjust the volume on the front speakers would be to use the level option.
