4 out of 5 stars Excellent product for the price.   April 22, 2002

This Home Theater is basically the same as the earlier Propack 600. The main difference is that the 600II plays MP3 and cd-r. The sound is very good considering the price (...at [a local store] with 10% off that). The remote is a little hard to get used to especially for a person with big hands. I would definetly recommend this system if you are looking for a HTIB in this price range.

1 out of 5 stars yes, people are right, this is a piece of...!!!   November 14, 2002

I purchased this unit on September 13th, 2002. As soon as i got it, the DVD player's tray did not even open. The receiver was not giving enough output. so i called JBL and they seemed very helpful at beginning. They said they will cover the shipping cost and will fix it in a month.

It's been 2 month now and my DVD unit is still in shop. I just got my receiver yesterday!!! i would not complain if it was working correctly. guess what.. there was another problem!!! Video 1 was not working at all!!! Now, JBL is being so rude to me and refused to replace the unit. Everytime i call this place, I have to wait at least 20 minutes, and then their service requires 2 months of my time!!!

It's not worth, trust me. I purchased this unit for [xxx] dollars. I thought i got a GREAT deal at first. However, after spending over 2 months and over 4 hours over the phone with JBL service guys, I think i even lost money on buying this unit...

DO NOT BUY JBL PRODUCTS!! THEY ARE JUST PIECE OF ...!!!

3 out of 5 stars Great Sound, but Ergonomically Challanged Remote   August 12, 2002

I picked this up at a national chain store for $$$$$. The sound is great for the price. It's still great at $$$$$. The highs are crisp and clear and the base has plenty of punch. The power is more that adequate, and the DVD changer seems to be competently designed. If you're looking for movie theater sound, this system delivers. But the system loses points for the remote. It has tiny buttons labeled with tiny type, all squeezed too close together and incompetently arranged. JBL knows how to make good sound equipment, but they need to repeat Ergonomics 101.

4 out of 5 stars Great sound for the price   November 24, 2002

I have the original 600 not the 600II but most features and performance are the same. Decided on the JBL after listening to a lot of home theater systems in the under $1000 price range. Bought mine refurbished from an authorized dealer so it had same warranty as a new one. The remote is a little confusing but the sound is great! It replaced my old larger system with Bose 901s so I wasn't sure I'd be happy but I am. Only problem with DVD played has been a few hesitations when playing enhanced widescreen DVDs but 99% of the time, no problems. Small speakers were a consideration and the 100 watt powered sub is more than adequate for home theater in a medium sized room. I think the model II may use an active sub powered from the receiver, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Had it two months and so far I am very pleased.

1 out of 5 stars TOO BAD ZERO ISN'T AN OPTION   December 3, 2002

SAVE YOUR MONEY,AND AVOID HEADACHES.
FROM THE START I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS MENTIONED IN OTHER REVIEWS. THE DVD TRAY DID NOT OPEN.
I DID CALL JBL AND ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY SHIPPING SCREWS THAT HAD TO BE REMOVED, AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WEREN'T ANY. BUT WAS TOLD THE DVD PLAYER WAS DEFECTIVE AND TO RETURN FOR ANOTHER UNIT. THE OUTPUT OF THE RECEIVER IS MEDIOCRE AT BEST. NO MID RANGE SOUND. THE SUBWOOFER WAS MUDDY AND DISTORTED.
THERE AREN'T ANY CONTROLS ON THE SUBWOOFER.
I DID RETURN THE UNIT AS INSTRUCTED AND PURCHASED A DIFFERENT BRAND.
