Amazon.com Product Description Watch movie trilogies end to end or spin CDs for hours at a time with Philips' affordable DVD782CH five-disc DVD/CD changer. Enjoy features like repeat-play modes (including A-B repeat for looping a cherished video or music segment), sequential CD track programming, CD random play, and resume play, which picks up where you left off when last watching a DVD or listening to a CD. Depending on your TV's inputs, you can choose from standard composite-video (yellow RCA) output, S-video, or high-resolution component-video outputs, which help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts. A single set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial and optical digital-audio outputs for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: TruSurround simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on a TV). What's in the Box DVD player, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, and a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable.
Product Description Philips DVDs have great picture and sound quality. Dual Focus lasers read audio and video information separately, ensuring optimum performance. Sometimes, it's the details that make Philips stand apart from the rest. The DVD782CH makes your movies come alive with digitally sharp display and component, composite, and S-Video outputs. It has playback capability of DVD/Video CD/Audio CD playback. The DVD782CH features 96kHz/24 bit Audio DAC for high audio quality output, Digital Audio Output (PCM/MPEG 2 Dolby Digital/DTS), TruSurround 3D Sound for stereo analog out, Dual analog audio output. Only Philips can bring such a number of features in one versatile device!

Beware of this 5-disc DVD changer - Zero Stars Rating November 27, 2001 59 out of 59 found this review helpful
Unfortunately, this is an example of deceptive advertising on the part of Philips. It is billed as a 5-disc DVD changer. However, it is a ***manual*** changer. You have to physically press a button on the unit itself or the remote control to get the unit to play the next disc in the sequence. It will not automatically go to the next disc. Further, the unit's internal programming is poorly done. It can take over 60 seconds for the unit to respond to a command, such as: open the disc drawer to insert/remove a CD or DVD, or to simply load a CD or DVD to play. This is a very poorly designed unit, with very poor performance in terms of its user interface. I certainly would not recommend this unit to anyone wishing to purchase a multi-disc DVD/CD changer, regardless of the price offered.
If you buy this, be sure to get the extended service plan November 16, 2001 44 out of 47 found this review helpful
I'm on my second 782C in four months. I'm sure glad I got the service plan, because it looks like I'm going to have to take this one back too. After it runs for about a half-hour, I have trouble with stuttering that eventually leads to a complete lock up. Granted, this is an improvement over the first one, which wouldn't get past the FBI warning on my Suspiria DVD.To be fair, most DVD's I don't have a problem with except for a little stuttering here and there, and I can get rid of it by starting over the DVD and skipping to where I left off, but I have at least two that I've had trouble getting past the first hour of. The afore mentioned Susperia and another Anchor Bay title called Phenomina. I had a friend test both these DVD's on his player and they played through for him with no problem. Perhaps the whole DVD thing is just a bill of good they sold us, two of my friends also have problem DVD's they can't play on their players. Nothing destroys a scary movie like stuttering, freezing, and starting over. And nothing turns me into a ludite faster then unreliable technology. Get your act together Philips, et al!

I have had an identical experience to Doug Ratcliff who also reviewed this product. Incredibly slow response to commands not to mention the skipping, resetting, and locking up altogether. I wish I had read his review before I bought my unit. Since I'm 11 days past the 90 days, it's going to cost about 1/2 what I paid for the unit (plus shipping) to get another one which is guaranteed not to be a NEW unit, just one that has been "remanufacutured" which I think means "repaired." Maybe I'll get one of Doug's returned units that has been repaired.
Pure junk January 27, 2002 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I thought a manufacturer like Philips would be roughly equivalent to other major brands. The 782C is pure junk. I couldn't play 75% of DVDs I tried. Commands took a looong time to execute. And when you entered another command while it is thinking about the current command, it could lock up. The CD mode played all the CDs I tried, but compared to my CD-only Sony changer, it was like going back to the early 80's in technology. On the otherhand, my JVC DVD worked excellently and played all the DVDs I couldn't watch on the Philips 782C.
ZERO stars - Nothing But Trouble January 1, 2002 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have not been able to watch half of the DVD's I've rented. The other comments on this page are absolutely true. Poor performance. Skips all the time. I wish I had read these comments before I bought it!!
