I took a long time thinking about this purchase, then a long time comparing the best deals. I ended up with this D60 outfit and could not be more delighted! (How I decided was which kit had what I was definitely going to purchase anyway; except for Tiffen and polarizing attachment lenses which I was going to purchase regardless, so I didn't consider them as a kit essential.) As far as the camera goes, I am still discovering it's abilities. I have a sister who has 4th stage breast cancer and I went to visit her last weekend. I wanted pictures of her but I did not want to be conspicious or to violate her comfortability level with a camera. We were at the beach and she was sitting in a chair, next to her husband with a big hat on and I didn't want to single her out to get a close up so I yelled from the waters edge, 'Hey you two!". They both smiled and waved and I got a nice distance shot. I was disappointed that I was standing a little too far away; wishing I could capture just a few more of her beautiful and certainly changing smiles. I started playing with the camera and before I knew it I had a perfect face shot of my sister with her beautiful smile and I managed to be perfectly subtle about it. To me, I could have spent a gazillion dollars on my camera and to have caught that beautiful photo without making her uncomfortable about it made it worth every single cent I paid for the camera kit. I haven't even used the zoom lens yet!
This camera has so much potential, I look forward to discovering everything there is to know about it! Also, do not have a hesitation about Cameta Camera. My husband and I have dealt with them many times and we have never once had the slightest problem. Delivery is prompt, complete, and you'll actually want to leave a review! Enjoy life!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent for beginners   July 15, 2008

I bought this package about one month ago, and I have traveled to upper NY with this. I shoot more than 2000 pics after my purchasing and I had a bit knowledge on camera before this camera since I've used Canon's Powershot series with manual settings.

This package contains one 18-55mm AF-S VR zoom lens that is useful for common situation and 55-200mm AF-S zoom lens for a bit more zooming. However, if you want to shoot things in long distance by 200mm zoom lens, it would be good to have a tripod unless you have good skill to release. I feel like that I'm shooting a rifle when I'm using 200mm lens. :-)

Packaging provided by the vendor is reliable and it was shipped in moderate time.

Also, Nikon's D60 is excellent for beginners on D-SLR camera. Although the view finder of D60 doesn't offer 1:1 view and you would find some noises when you select ISO 1600, you would be generally satisfied with the quality of pictures which you've taken.

If you are a real beginner with SLR camera, then you would need to learn some basic skills to fully utilize this excellent machine. Of course, you can use some preset modes that is also working very well in most common situation.

We are very happy with the camera and all the products we got to go with it. It takes great pictures, very clear, great color. We can see the difference when we download to the computer compared to our Coolpix P4 camera.
It's also great for taking many pictures at once just holding down the button. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a great camera.

I bought this camera to take pix of our flowers & new grandchild. I previously had a Fujica manual 35mm and a Canon AE-1 ( still have both). This is an awesome camera! You can select almost point & shoot or as detailed as you want. I love the non-flash option, especially for inside shots of the newborn, so we don't hurt her eyes. I use the macro for flower closeups ( and bugs and bees), use the portrait mode for mom-newborn shots.. about 2.5Gb per photo, so have lots of room on your HD. The 8Gb card will hold about 900 photos. on my Linux PC Digicam works great to recognize and bring in the pictures to my PC.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Entry Level DSLR   September 8, 2008

The Nikon D60 replaces the D40 quite adequately. It's just right for digital photography enthusiasts who are ready to make the leap from point-and-shoots and into SLRs. The particular outfit from CAMETA Camera was surprisingly useful and I would recommend it as a start-up kit for any enthusiast. Overall, the D60 is a great, easy to use DSLR.
