Simply EVIL! February 28, 2008 99 out of 120 found this review helpful
The appliance comes with evil, unwanted, non-uninstallable software. Here is what it does:
1. Installs itself on your system without asking your permission first. It puts an icon in your tray. It pops up a window suggesting more software you can get.
2. It claims you can unstall the adware, but the uninstaller does not work. If you delete all the files, they magically reappear every time you put the device in the port. (This is a SPYWARE technique, and it is EVIL.)
3. An uninstaller downloaded from the SanDisk web site similarly does not work. Perhaps it works on some systems, but it did not work on mine.
4. It accesses the internet. My firewall stopped it, but the question is, WHY would any flash drive try to access the web? I have confidential data. I do NOT want my flash drive giving ANY information to any other source. Again, this is a typical spyware activity.
5. No privacy statement. No license agreement. No documenation warning you that unwanted software will be installed. No information about the installation, such as what registry keys were added, or where hidden files reside. I could be carrying artifacts of this device on my system for years, and I wouldn't even know it.
Although I can not technically call this software spyware, I can call it frustrating, aggravating, and EVIL. It wasted my time not only researching this nasty behavior and how to clean up my system after this appliance touched it, but also the time it takes to return this evil device to the vendor.
Not for Mac May 30, 2007 31 out of 51 found this review helpful
This item comes with U3 stuff imbedded, which is useless to Mac users. It is not possible to throw away the U3, which shows up as a separate disk icon on the desktop. You also cannot reformat this "disk." It takes up 200 MG that one loses as storage space, and puts two icons on the desktop. This disk is simply not satisfactory for a Mac user unless you want to put up with lost space and useless icons on the desktop.
If you have any sense at all... April 17, 2008 28 out of 31 found this review helpful
...don't listen to the negative reviews for this product. SanDisk makes a great product, every time. I use nothing but SanDisk for my flash drive/memory card needs because quite frankly, other companies don't make reliable products. The software issues with this device are not even a problem if you simply UNINSTALL the U3 software. Once you do that, it's treated as a mass storage device just like anything else. There is no law written down that you need to use software on a device just because it came with it. Using the Windows explorer to manage your files is easier and more effective anyway.
Great Jump drive but not VISTA compatable April 2, 2007 26 out of 33 found this review helpful
Great product if you are not using VISTA. U3 Software in NOT VISTA compatable and SanDisk cannot tell me when the update will be available. Can't find a way to change the password once set. Working on it. Any upgrades to the U3 system formats the unit.
SanDisk Cruzer great for ReadyBoost May 12, 2007 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
I have a SanDisk Cruzer U3 drive and it works great. I purchased another with 4 GB to use solely as for ReadyBoost on my Vista computer. Installation was a no-brainer and it immediately offered me an option to use it for ReadyBoost and to apportion the 4 GB between the normal Cruzer US functions and ReadyBoost. I chose to used the majority for ReadyBoost and have been rewarded with better performance. I keep it installed permanently. I'd recommend it highly.
