Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
There are times when you need to take photographs that are professional quality, but you don't have the time or space to pack big-time equipment. The Canon EOS IX Lite is exactly what you need to pack when you're traveling light.Carry this SLR anywhere and everywhere to photograph everything. The EOS IX Lite takes advantage of what Canon calls the Advanced Photo System, a system that lets you change rolls in mid-stream, literally and figuratively. If you're in a lighting situation that requires more or less light than the roll you're currently shooting, change it, without sacrificing any of your photos. That's the beauty of the EOS IX. And just wait until you see the beauty of your photographs. Top quality, big time.

Amazon.com Product Description
Canon incorporates the best features of its standard SLR cameras and Advanced Photo System features to produce the EOS IX Lite. It's smaller than most SLR cameras but retains all of the important features you've come to expect for creative control. Because it is an APS camera, film handling is fully automatic. Print quality improvement, index print sheets, and three different picture formats for traditional, wide angle, and panoramic shots are all built in.

The EOS IX Lite offers automatic adjustment for close-ups, portraits, landscapes, action scenes, and night shots. There is a high-performance three- point autofocus system, and an advanced built-in flash that activates automatically or can be shut off manually. This model includes a 22-55mm zoom lens, the ideal basic lens for the EOS IX Lite. The lens has an ultrasonic motor drive that delivers precise, silent, high-speed auto focusing.

It integrates six-zone exposure metering sensors with three autofocus points for ideal exposures in all kinds of lighting conditions. The autofocus system also detects whether the subject is stationary or moving, and automatically adjusts focusing so you can get great shots of sports events. This kit comes with a Canon 22-55mm EF lens; you can add any Canon EF lenses or Speedlites to expand your photographic capabilities.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!   October 5, 2000

I was on the beach on the east coast, when my old tiny plastic lense camera quit funtioning! It was time to buy an SLR camera! I was skeptical about the APS film. Was it really better? YES. This camera is extraordinarily easy to use, yet retains all manual funtions, if so desired. I love the three different "angles" available (wide, regular, panaramic), and when you get your film back, the proof sheet even outlines the picture to show you what it would look like if you took a panaramic shot, and ordered a "regular" size reprint! These angles are easy to switch between, on the back of the camera. The menu system to access most functions is intuitive and practical. In addition, I finally have a red eye flash that REALLY works. The auto focus is goof proof, providing just the right feel, complete with beeps and green lights. The pictures are crystal clear, you feel as if you could dive into them! If you are toying with the idea of buying a "real" camera, give this one a look! It's lighter in weight than my old "waterproof active camera", and takes far superior pictures. These features plus the creative control both during the taking of the shot, and after you recieve your prints is outstanding. Would I make this purchase again? OH YES!

4 out of 5 stars Fascinating!   December 22, 2000

Two camera stores advised against this neat little EOS IX camera because of the APS format. Film size, fuzzy prints, etc. were according to them the drawbacks. They were ready to sell me a 35mm. I don't know what caused me to ignore them, and purchased the EOS IX anyway for our trip to Tahiti. We shot 14 rolls of film, and I came to totally love the APS format - the variety of options in print shapes. After I got used to the great variety of functions (I do not use the full-automatic function), it was an absolute joy to work with this camera. The light weight is a definite plus on a vacation. I purchased a 100-300 mm lens to go with it. The photos we made are our pride and joy. Be sure, however, to have them developed by Kodak! I had to have my entire set re-developed after a fiasco with an in-house developer. (I got my money back.) The only reason why I do not give this camera 5 stars is that I feel the built-in flash is inadequate. I purchased another flash attachment. Otherwise, I highly recommend this camera for the vacation photographer who wants to venture beyond the 'point-and-shoot' little 'box-cameras-for-dummies!'

4 out of 5 stars Canon EOS IX Lite Kit   July 9, 2000

This is a wonderful kit. I found that it was great for me, an amateur, as a beginner camera. The fact that the camera is an SLR, but has easy drop in film loading (APS film) really appealed to me. I would recommend this to any beginner who wants to start with a nice camera that can adapt as they learn.

4 out of 5 stars Great camera   June 5, 2001

This is a great small camera, with interchangable lenses and multiple print formats. Can be fully automatic or as manual as you like. Currently three types of film available, ASA 200 and 400 in color, and black and white film. Print quality is comparable to 35mm for prints up to very large sizes (roughly 2 foot by 3 foot sizes.) Film is easily loaded, and can be changed from one roll to another midroll. A good variety of lenses are available from Canon, as well as several other manufacturers. We've enjoyed ours very much, and would buy one again.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic camera at a great price.   December 4, 2001

I bought the camera last December as a Christmas present for my wife. She had always used a 35mm automatic, but I decided to upgrade to this SLR-APS hybrid. We could not be more pleased.

The camera has consistently taken sharp, beautiful pictures with great color and image clarity. The ease of the APS system is unbelievable. And with the camera's optional fully-manual or fully-automatic settings, using the camera itself is as easy or as complicated as you want it to be.

If you're looking for a great, affordable camera with lots of options (and upgrade capability), this is the one for you!
